the HAMB is better than a magazine because you can participate in the threads , and you get a constant flow of changing information that you dont have to wait a month for the next fix

  2. I'm addicted to both!

  3. I have been buying mags about hotrodding '40,'50 and '60 cars for years and enjoyed them. Then I found the hamb last year and feel more connected to what I really like, so to me it has the mags beat hands down. I have two subscriptions left ( R&C, SRM) and am contemplating letting them run out. I do enjoy HRD for the stories and photos, so I buy every issue and will continue to do so. I hope that Ryan and company keep the hamb going way into the future, as it is an archive of a way of life, brotherhood and car building that future generations of hotroders could use to keep the love of building cars from this period in time alive.

Unlike most of you who found this place through magazines, the HAMB replaced magazines because it was far superior even in the HAMB 1.0 days. It was traditional rodders helping traditional rodders. Those of you who weren't there will never know what it was like. I stopped subscribing to magazines ages ago, I didn't need them anymore. Particularly now as they are moving away from the "raht rawd" $&!1 and towards Foose-esque restomods on donk wheels. Good riddance. (For the record, I understand the work that goes into making them but they don't float my boat.) Those of us that have been traditional from the get go are going to stay and watch the fadboys leave with a smile on our faces. I'll buy vintage magazines for their historical/entertainment value and I'll buy a new one IF there is a car there that I really like, but more often not. Sorry magazines, its just not as informational as I need anymore. :(

I don't do magazines anymore, seems to me they have all become nothing but printed infomercials. Just my 2 cents worth.

    I gotta say H.A.M.B.:D
For real you guys like incepted my brain and took over. i did buy a R&C the other day, Being that Jeff norwells car was on it. but beyond that it really just does seem like one big add. Not too much tech to sink my teeth into. i still like engine masters tho! car craft has always been my style.
But all said. HAMB ALL THE WAY.
i dont know how i lived without it before

P.s Its funny talking to people who arent on the HAMB. just awkard. like "Yeaaaaa its a hotrod thing, nevermind. But your G-body is nice"

The HAMB for me also, when I first started looking on the here I still picked up mags, but it seems that the longer I was on the HAMB the less I bought mags, now I buy none and hang out here. Good people and always some good tech and the question ask are almost replyed to within a few mintues. Let's not forget if you break down on a road trip you can't ask a magazine for help.

    The answer is simple......
Ask a question on the HAM and mail it in to a magazine.
WHICH one gets answered first ( or at all)?

I buy the occasional magazine just to see if the adds have changed yet.

FWIW. I chose not to renew my subsciptions and instead got the alliance membership.
A better use of money in my mind.

  12. I compare it to T&A. There's some nice Model Ts; ..... and some nice Model As.

And on the rare ocassion you find models with nice Ts & As. :D

This question presented to people here on the HAMB? What answers do you expect? If you asked this same question in the magazines you would get different answers from different people. It seems silly to ask this question at either place.

I am about 50/50. They both have their good and bad points. One advantage magazines have is that I can take them to work to read on my breaks. I guess one other thing bothers me about here is when someone does a build story on their vehicle you have 20 guys saying, "thats cool" in between the posts of the build of the car. Another board I get on (non HAMB cars) they let you do build journals where you can write out the details on the build and no body else can post. Basically you can get the story without the BS in between.

if I actually want to learn how to do something, I come here first.

  15. I still read the magazines (on the crapper or in bed) but I LOVE the in-depth builds and answers to questions I find on the H.A.M.B.! Since I found this website I have learned that I don't know it all like I thought I did! LOL...

So maybe, May West and Norma Gene would be some good models ;).

Both, I like being able to flip through the pages of a magazine in my free time. But I also love the HAMB because it usually has a preview of what is going to be in a mag.Plus lately I've been able to talk to the guys that own the cars in the books;and ask them questions that I want to ask. How F*%kin cool is that!
