I'll jump on this bandwagon. There are very few cars that I prefer to be a four door over an identical two door, but then I've found a lot of sweet deals on some nice buildable cars that were four doors. So they're getting converted.

It seems dumb to me when guys will replace all the floors, quarters, inner wheelhouses and front clips on a two door car using parts from the four door when really the only good parts on the two door could have just been swapped over onto the good car.

At some point, the aftermarket is going to produce a new replacement 55-57 Chevy two door sedan door and on that day there will be no excuse to own or build a tri-5 four door sedan.

I would... but it would have to have two things going for it...

    1. be a hardtop...
    2. be very cheap...

but then I probably wouldn't keep it anyway...

If I were new to the hobby and didn't have alot of money to spend, I would pick a running 4 door car over a 2 door project that doesn't run.

I have a 1947 Ford Fordor with a warmed up flatty in it. I like it, so that is all that matters to me.

In the old days ('62) I had a custom four door Ford I drove to school. Lately I have had a few four doors. Here are a couple.

'56 Ply 4 door custom I no trouble selling last year, in fact it went to Yugoslavia.

My Hupp was a 4 door.
I also have a 36 Ford 4 door that I'll do as a 4 door if I get around to it.

I've had the 57 copper more door since I was 14 lover her to death... but probably won't buy another 4 door because it just doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.... stupid really...

I'd go 4 doors on a wagon. I always look at any hotrod purchase as an investment in the case of an unplanned sell. 2 doors just bring in more $$ and look less goofy IMO.

I have never went out looking for one... But one found me 2 weeks ago. Craigs List ad, 53 DeSoto 4 door fully restored over 14K invested must go 3K.... I have been driving it everyday... It will NEVER be as cool as my 51 chevy but for 3K my wife now has a car to drive... What the hell, for that kind of money we can have some fun for a year or so and get your money back!

They make nice parts cars and daily drivers.

If you are talking about a 1928-1936 ford I would build it. I like coupes and 2dr's better, but I like them all through those years.

Coolest four door in the world? Deuce!!!! Hell yes. Friend of mine just bought a deuce four-door out of a barn with 34,000 miles. If you don't think they are cool wait until you see this one.

I would rather have a good, cheap, more door as a daily than payments on a Honda. I have seen some real clean low miles Rambler 4 doors for 2-3 k and they get 20ish gas mileage. Parts are easy to come by, you can fix it your self and no payments. Better than a 18k Honda that cost $700 for a BS sensor that shuts the car down.

No problem with 4 door wagons. I've seen a few with the door handles removed on the back doors and liked the look. Don't think I'm ready for a more door car just yet.

Late model 4-doors are family cars/daily drivers cause they get good milage, and are generally reliable and safe. Yes, I occasionally buy one of these.

Early model 4-doors are a good place to store extra engines, wheels, glass and sheet metal parts for later use on Hot Rods. They are never Hot Rods themselves. So yes, I'd buy one for parts.

Early model 4-doors are occasionally used to make customs, lowriders, and race cars. I'm not personally into customs or lowriders. But if that's your thing, then knock yourself out.

My 57 Olds is a 4 door and I love it. I didn't buy it because it was already in the family. If I was in the market for another car and found a nice 4 door with good lines I would likely get it. My wife's father has a super looking 39 Ford Deluxe Fodor, that I would love to have.

  23. This has worked for me for the last 13 years, been a daily from time to time and done over 20,000 miles in it, thru rain hail and shine. Great for family and friends along for the ride.
