And admitting this problem is the first step.

Hell I finished one and didn't even drive it but ten feet on to a trailer.

  3. Not this time...I've always sold one project to get fundage to buy the next one on my bucket list.....when I stray off my "list" the project generally gets sold before I get it done....
When I hit 60, I noticed a lot of my friends were dying off for various reasons and I had not tried for the car on the top of my list...it was time. If I didn't get started on it now I may not get to drive it. I immediately went on the hunt for a 33-34 ford coupe I could afford..found a piece-a-shit old roundy-round racer and started buying parts. This one is being built exactly as I want with no thought toward selling it..no compromises to satisfy the next owners wants. Everything else I own is for sale except my tools to build my coupe...coupe ain't gonna be sold when it's done unless my widow sells it.

The build is the fun part, always seem to have to sell one to build another.

  5. Sure. I built that one so I know I can build another one.

  6. To me the planning gathering of parts and the thrill of the hunt is the fun.
    DO IT!

  7. By the time I get mine done I may have to trade it for a good place in the the retirement home. It's not been a good year for the working on the 59 :(

Seriously though, I don't think I could ever get rid of it.

Twice now, always to fund the next one. It just seems to happen.

    Interesting topic.
I just sold my '40 Standard. I took photos of it and my '40 Deluxe together just for fun. The background Deluxe seemed to get more attention than the car I was actually trying to sell. One of the guys interested in my standard showed interest in my Deluxe and we spoke off and on for about a wk about it. Next thing I know, he's made an offer and has a flight scheduled from San Diego to come pay and pick it up. I was kind of excited at first because I was pondering what I wanted next. This all happened over this past wknd with the Goodguys show in town so I was planning on going rod shopping. I walked around for a couple of days thinking of what I wanted next. Seems everything I liked better than my car is so far out of budget it didn't make sense. Once the price gets too high, I start thinking of multiple cars for the same money.
Anyway, I started getting cold feet about the sale but wasn't going to back out 1. we could use the money and 2. That's not cool to do to a guy who is flying across the country with cash.
He shows up and looks the car over but doesn't seem as excited as I pictured a guy coming that far to buy a '40 Ford should be. He says he likes it and thinks it's beautiful, but now he is thinking he might prefer something with a/c, disc brakes, and an overdrive to make it more highway friendly as he is wanting to do several long haul cross country trips. We hang out and talk cars for a bit and then he says "how much will it upset you if I don't buy it?" I tell him "not a bit" we shook hands and told each other to keep in touch.
I buy and sell cars all the time, infact that's what I do for a living. Sometimes you just come across one you aren't quite ready to turn loose though. Hope I have learned my lesson and end up keeping this old '40 for a long time.

    Photo of both '40s below.

  15. I highlighted the key words in your question. THAT is the answer to your question right there.;)

  16. I couldn't part with this cool roadster, but Rob Lee wants to move on to the next build and needs the room. This is the nicest running, riding, handling, good looking hot rod I have had the pleasure to ride in. He is braver than I could be. ~Sololobo~
