Way to go with the Pontiac! I've always loved 'em, and if you do a tasteful job customizing, it should be killer.

One small step for Pontiac, one giant leap for a Chevrolet convert....just keep walking towards the light boy, you'll like our playground better.

PLEASE don't make this car look like a Chevy!!!! There are so many Chevy's and customs out there. There are hardly any Pontiacs left out there that haven't been mis-treated!!! Especially 2-door sedans! There are tons of hardtops but seem to be very few 2-door Sedans on the road that don't look like ASS already!!

If you're going to make it look like a Chevy, SELL IT TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS A PONTIAC!! (speaking generally to the masses here)

    How about some inspiration...

If you don't want any of that pontiac trim and grille parts, let me know. I'll take it off your hands.

Was just goin to say the same thing!:D

Check this 53, i always quote it when someone talks about'em, has to be the nicest one around, its Buzz Bomb's from The Devils Venice.
Now be honest w/ yourself and look what could become of that 800 bucks piece of steel.
Then if you really wanna run Pakard tails go find a chevy, otherwise good luck w/ what could become a one of a kind custom.

I agree. Don't do it. Making a Pontiac "look" like Chevy
would be like turning a Mercury into a Ford.. Can you
imagine someone wanting a '40 Ford and building one
from an even more rare and and valuable 40' Merc??
Dumb, right? This be would about the same thing
Nothing wrong with Fords or with Mercs, but like Chevs
and Pontiacs, each marque has its own niche, unque
characteristics and styling and their own following..If
you realy want a Chevy, than that's what you should
buy and build - even if it means holding out until the
right deal comes along - and leave this Pontiac for
someone who wants and appreciates it for what it is.

I think some elongated taillights like on a 51 merc, along with a chevy grill and added teeth would not only look cool but it would throw alot of people off, they would'nt know what it was, make something no one else has.

personally i think this is a personal choice thing
if you cant fall in love with it and have your heart set on something else, no matter the reasons you could end up wasting time and valuable resources and not be satisfied.
than the project sufferes for it and it ends up sitting
I cant say that is what you will do, because i dont know you.
but those pontiacs can sure be sweet customs, and the things you dont care for can be altered or completely changed to meet with your minds eye of a custom you could fall in love with..
its all up to your art
let us know what you do..if you pass on it. i can bet some other fellow HAMBer would be jacked as hell if you payed it forward with the info as to where it is and how to get his hands on it

We smoke the peace pipe, bust out the peyote, and perform a Ghost dance or two.......:D But no damn Ponti-Acks, give me a damn break.:D

  22. The good part is - it's a two door.
The Pontiac was more like an Olds or Buick in being a heavier,
better riding car of it's time. I've always liked the dashes of
    those Ponchos.

Have you ever noticed that the hot rod supply shops sell a tail
light just like those for use on rods and customs?

Here are a few pics lifted from carnut.com of pontiac customs.

This one even has a 53 Chevy grill shell.....

    And Caddy tail lights..........

    And a 54 model........

Don't do it! Get the Chevy that you want. I have a project right now that I "settled" on because it was the best "deal" that I could find at the time. Now that the project has been sitting for some time, I'm finding it hard to get motivated on it. Wait for your dream car dude... you'll find it!

No, they didn't "all" have chevy engines in them. I have a '53 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe that I bought 16 years ago (at the ripe old age of 18). I don't recall ever seeing a Cheverolet with a flathead straight 8... The Canadians use a Chevy taillight and there are a few more differences, but it is still the same basic car as the American model and in my personal opinion a little more attractive from the rear. This is a moot point though, the one you're wanting to buy is an American model.

When I bought mine, I'd just missed out on a '53 Chevy. It wasn't exactly what I wanted at the time, but the price was right. I had intentions of chopping, frenching, engine swap, and etc. I ended up lowering it and putting on wide whites and dual exhaust. After the stance was a bit lower, I never saw the point in going any further. These cars grow on you. It's getting harder to find engine parts (and it's impossible to find good grill pieces), but if you're swapping the running gear and grill, you should be golden.
