All right we`ve seen the chain steering wheel post, the Moon foot pedal post. Now I have a question with something I’ve used in the past. Beer tap handles as shift knobs.I used a Pabst beer handle for a while but took it off because I thought it gave my car a rat rod look. Anyone else use them on their hotrods or customs? or grenade shift knob, vintage microphone shift knobs? Do these have a place here on the hamb? Lets see those pictures.

--I went back in to edit the title because allot of guys were getting their panties in a pinch thinking I was seeking approval of new shift knob. If they read my post its states “I used a Pabst beer handle for a while, but took it off because I thought it gave my car a rat rod look”. Please read the post before flipping out and posting negativity.

Dude... think about it for just a quick second. You get pulled over for having a bad taillight. The cop walks up to your car, and the first thing he sees is a beer can? That's probably not gonna end real well....

More than 15 years ago we were headed home from Daytona Bike Week and stopped at a bar having free food and cheap beer as a farewell party. Good enough reason to stop! They had a band out back and a wild crowd. Also had a flea market thing. I bought two large beer toppers with the idea I'd put them on a few of my cars. After the beer settled and I got what's left of my mind back, I tossed those toppers in a box somewhere in my garage. No way!:(
However I did have a large dice shift knob and matching dice on my dash knobs and valve stems for years.

I bought my first car just after I turned 14. That was in 1958 - most of the hot rods and customs around the valley used either beer tap handles or homemade plastic knobs. You had to make some kind of an adaptor for the tap handles as the threads were never the same as the myriad of shifters available back then. They were not considered dorky (the tap handles) by any means and the biggest thrill was getting someone from back east to send you one for a brand not available on the west coast. As usual, the whole 'trend' was overdone, beat to death and fell out of favor as people were festooning vans with every dumbass accessory that JC Whitney and others could sell. Shortly thereafter, skulls made a resurgence (they were popular with the "jalopy" crowd back before WWII) in the guise of shift knobs, dash knobs, radiator caps, and now those venerable "objets d'art" have also become a complete joke, along with cobwebs and spiders, porky-butted Betty Page wannabes, and dudes that think hot rods with the top of the wheel above the beltline and rusty tractor grilles is "traditional". Everything old is new again....so save those diamond and maltese cross-shaped van windows, the non-factory sunroofs and that 20yds of shag carpeting - you could be a trendsetter someday.
