I saw a magazine article awhile back on dropping axles. They put long rods in each hole (perch and king pin) the long rods will show if axle is bent or twisted. I think you can get a fairly accurate indication from a magnetic angle finder on the face of the axle. Good luck 33, let us know how you make out.

There were thousands of those type axles running around in the past, I've got one up in my rafters. I think the unfortunate kink is what happens when you put that much drop in the later axles with a short distance from the king pin boss to the spring perch boss. Back then, I don't think the guys dropping axles were as concerned with aesthetics as some are now, especially under the big, fendered cars. I don't see any reason not to check it out and run it.

  9. No,,,,,Matt Helm was Dean Martin,,,,,,always beautiful girls,,,,LoL.
A sort of James Bond take off,,,,,but with a drinking ,,,womanizing plot .
Dean was really in his element then !

Anthony Franciosa was in a lot of movies,,,,,usually with beautiful woman as well .
I don’t remember any series of movies where he was the same lead character .

    RE: the Fastenal kit -

A can of The penetrant and developer for Liquid penetrant/dye penetrant inspection can be had for under $40.
The "cleaner" can be replaced with Brake Clean.

Magnetic particle inspection can be way more sensitive that LP.

I'd check out the outer 14" or so at each end of the axle.

I'll run that axle right now. No checking, no straightening, no worrying. I love it.

These axles are cool from a historic perspective, but to me they look absolutely awful.
