Really nice. If you want to replace the Falcon motor with a '63 Stude 170 inch OHV 6 I'll donate one to the effort along with the 3 speed.

Damn brother, that is a very interesting build. I just saw a 34 Stude coupe at a car show and was knocked out with that grille area. It is no trad hot rod but I would love to see that baby brought back as is. Way to dig'em out man. Thanx for sharing this unique "baker" with us. ~Sololobo~

  5. You see so few Studebakers of this vintage that it's easy to forget just how stylish some of their cars were. :D

As far as it being a movie car...If I squint my eyes a bit I can visualize it in OD green or desert tan and it looks a bit like a European military staff car. Needs a machine gun out the back with that turret-top!

    A color change would help.

No worries, Right when the customer showed me I thought of you,, Bobby would shit if he saw this. This crow sits on the front of a dune buggy that was made in the early 60's by his father. The original was cracked at the foot, so I took it over to the foundry and had a recast done of it. Stands about 10-11"s tall.

I'll get another one casted up and shoot it down to you. ~S

I think it's a little ungainly. I don't think Barris would leave the bodylines half-exposed there on the quarters, and would probably have made the door hinge modifications a little more subtle. But it is real interesting and I think it has potential. I'm not too hip on the faux spare tire cover and large bumper irons. Reworking the rear end slightly would pay big dividends. As would lowering and some decent wheels. ;) Can't wait to see what you do to it...

Well .... Let's not fool ourselves. She's a bit akward looking from certain angles. If the car doesn't have any historical custom significance I'm tempted to find a 35 stude coupe of roadster body and bring her back to stock.
What's the opinion of the crowd ? Restore as custom ? Or restore as stock stude ?

And Rich Fox. Thanks for the donation of the motor. I just might take you up on it

leave it a custom, there are quite a few studies, but only one like this. makes me wonder wonder what it would look like slammed, with full skirts, and the bumpers removed. i really like the orange photo shop, i think this car could be extremely cool.

Keep it custom. It's one of a kind (maybe with good reason) but I like it, it's different and it appears to be well done. Those bumpers could use a pulling in and maybe ditch the rear body lines as someone else mentioned but other then that I like it.

    Keep it a custom!

  14. Even without any particular history, it's a pretty unique custom. How's the work on it? If it was done well I would restore it as a custom. Especially if there's real evidence that it was built like that in the 50s, it kinda blows the "traditional" moniker into the air.

Not to offend anyone..It reminds me of the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile ... No offense, just for laughs..

  16. I agree that it is a little ungainly but I see it as having a ton of potential. I think that you should leave it custom and finish it or sell it to someone who will. That car is already on the way to being pretty incredible, just gotta have someone with the vision and skills to make the different styles come together. I'll tell ya right now it ain't me but I hope someone does it.

I think I would kinda go back to the roadster look, leave the body sectioned but loose that roof. Its cool, but just.....I dont know, kinda PT cruiser looking or something, I dont know, like some of the old boats made in the 50's almost has cool lines but not quite, I dont know what is missing but something isnt right. An opinion about what this guy should do with this car is worth nothing. It's all up to him. But, I would very likely keep it as is. Restore it to it's former glory. This is snapshot in time, history.

I vote for leaving it as the custom it was intended to be. It looks like it was an effort of a 50's body man to have his own version of a European coach built car from the 30's. That is what I would shoot for. Something that you would expect to be making a fast road trip between Paris and the Rivera in the mid/late 30's with a hot can can dancer at the drivers side.

My vote would be to keep it as a custom and do what you like, with no particular history its just a great head start on a wild one of a kind. Take it and run with it.......just don't put a SBC and automatic tranny in it! :D

  21. Nice Score , I vote to keep it custom, with a little freshening up.

Lose the roof, make a roadster out of it.

I think a Duvall windshield would look killer on this car!

I agree. The automatic tranny thing has been way overdone. This one should get at least a 5 spd manual and a 406 SBC.:rolleyes::D

I like studebakers but that combination doesn't do it for me. I would put it back to a roadster. Not every custom from the 50's was a great idea back then either.

It may be a little strange to some people. But so am I. Anyway I like it. With the Starliner roof. Just needs a Stude motor.

Definately time to let your talent and imagination finish what started out as a cool idea. It looks like someone tried real hard but overran their abilities. The right skills will make it the excellent one of a kind it should be. Wish I had it, but then I know my skill set arent what it needs for sure LOL

I say put Rich's Stude motor and trans in it with some hop up goodies on it, smooth out the hump above the spare tire, fill the body seams, blend/mold the headlight buckets into the body, mold in the tail lights better or possibly replace them with something that follows the bodylines better, reshape the rear bumper to flow with the bodylines, run some chrome wires and blackwalls and paint it a dark blue...essentially just smooth it out and make the best of what's already done to the car...I think it has LOTS of potential as is, and making it into a roadster definately loses all of its uniqueness...love the car man, good score Bobby...

The taillamps are stock 37 Ford.

I'm kinda liking the little travel trailer behind it with the portholes down the side.

I vote for keeping it a custom.

Grab a Ford 250, put on a Classic Inlines aluminum HIPO head, triple side drafts...ya, that's the ticket....
