I did a photoshop yesterday. A little while later Dart comes along and posts his rendering.

Since he did that I deleted my photoshop. I also deleted the original picture I saved. I also removed the photo editing program off the computer.

My computer mouse has been reprimanded and I broke my right hand just because.

in other words... damn that drawing is cooool

Dart's rendition looks great but a lot of work. When done the rear window still does not flow with the front half. Take the time it would take to finish it off as Dart shows and put that time into making it a 30's tail-dragging 3 window coupe. This Studebaker could have the style lines similar to the later 30's zephyrs. Like what Dart shows with the drawing. Just need to get rid of the late 40's back window. :)

Yes, my feedback is as positive as all of yours. Dart really nailed it!!! If the car was going to receive a facelift, that is exactly what I would do,..... However, I will not be doing that.
the fact of the matter is,.... Between racing the Bellytank 4 or more times a year, and the stack of hot rod projects I have at the shop, I will never get around to building a custom like this..... I don't even like customs that much..... Sorry custom guys.... But I'm a small fast car kinda guy. I bought the car because I knew it needed to be saved and thought it might have some rich history to tell. So with that said, I will be selling the car to someone that can appreciate it more than me and hopefully have the time and desire to make it really shine.
I will definitely pass on Dart's sketches to the new owner. Hopefully they like it as much as we do.
If anyone is interested in the next month let me know. After that I'll put her on the evilbay.

  9. I agree Bobby. You don't have the time...or the room, for that matter! I'm still glad you saved it. Maybe we will see it around again someday...

Bad Bob, Thanks for the support. You've been to the shop, so you know what I mean.

First thing I thought of when I saw the pictures is someone tried to duplicate a Kanter catalog car rendering in real life.

2 thumbs up to Darts rendering also. Sure makes a difference with a little tweaking.

For some reason when I saw the first pic of it I thought if you smoothed out all bad, added door tops, and for some reason this sounds cool to me Gull Wing doors (like the mercedes had, not just normal doors hinged at the top), rework the back end, ditch the bumper or make it fit... And I think I would add a trunk Something from maybe a late 30's Humpback chevy could probably be reworked to use... I'd leave the spare tire dealio on the back, but make it smaller, with a cap that matched what ever caps you used (and make it removable so you can change caps).. maybe chop it a bit, it'd be cool with a dash similar to a Zeypher dash... Buckets seats, wrap around rear seats all covered in white w/ body color inserts... I think deep maroon/burgandy or black would look sweet. And like metioned before a 289 Stude w/ a blower. Oh and some reworking of the front end would be needed too...

But then I saw Darts rendering....

But for some reason gull wing doors still sound cool... maybe it was because I was looking at a gull winged van in a 70's truckin' magazine I had today...

You said: "I bought the car because I knew it needed to be saved", but your intentions are to sell it? How is that saving a car?

Well, put it this way... I beat a guy by 5 minutes that was gonna part it out. He was a Studebaker guy, not a custom guy.

It's a cool find, and I hope it finds a nice home and you get paid lots of money for it. Everyone will go home happy, including the car. It's a neat one. Good luck brother.

Bobby, if I had the money and shop space I'd be all over putting that baby into the reality of Dart's sketches, but right now I just can't handle it...I sure hope someone here that has the means and the passion to make The Dictator (per Dart's concept sketch) a reality steps up to the plate and buys it from you...it certainly has tons of potential, and it has definately inspired me to do a similar style build in the future...I'm really digging the pre-war style stuff more and more, and having a little post-war flavor thrown in certainly helps ease me into the right direction...

Bobby,I went through your websites and I just wanta say that whoever is doing your photography is really good. The pics are great. Looks like you boys in Cali are having a great time unlike we poor boys in Michigan. Good to see someone taking it by the horns.

if its a legit custom, id just refurb it and keep it or sell it. but in my opinion that spare tire, bumper, and roof gotta go. looks like a limo or something.

Thanks Scooby. If I make a couple bucks, that's cool, but everybody that knows me, knows that I'm in this hobby for the cars, not the money. I'd love to see the car have a new life.

What do you want for it? I've been looking for a custom project for a while. PM me, I'm semi interested if it's the right price.

How's it feel to be an idiot?

I respectfully disagree...the rear window is what makes it stand on it's own, otherwise it is just another car.

PLEASE DON'T CHOP!!! This car should be cleaned-up and put on the weekly car show tour. The blue looks very good. Don't change the color. The design is so far out of left field it actually looks good. I usually don't like custom cars but this is an exception. Who ever did it got it correct. Please don't destroy a cool car.

This kinda clicked with me, because I remembered a show I used to watch called The Good Guys that featured Bob Denver, and some kind of diner and some kind of taxicab.

After scoping out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhGssQZroyc showing the car used in the show, I can say that it definitely AIN'T it. The car in the show is a huge '30s sedan of some kind.

Was Bob Denver in anything else?
