Certainly wishing the best of luck to the people on board. Since it was a car he's had since he was 16, I'd like to think it's going to survive and stay in his hands. Sure will be good to hear that they came out of it on the good side........ Thanks too for the pics of the car before the accident. I'm sure knowing the car as well as he did helped him handle it and keep it from being worse.......

Prayers for a quick recovery for all including the rod........

  8. No one wants to hear of old tin in a wreck, here's hoping everyone is okay.
Hit those bumps on my way to Billetproof, almost knocked me out.

It's pretty messed up, but I'm glad to see that the body is roughly the same basic shape, meaning the roof didn't cave in on them or anything horrible like that.

    Thoughts and prayers.

Dumb question: how do you distinguish a cast axle from a forged axle?

  13. My thoughts and prayers go out the couple that were in the accident, I hope they are OK.

Good to see no one hit the windshield. Seatbelts maybe? Hope he gets it back together. A friend here totaled his 3 window he had since the 60's. It's back good as new now.

Man that's horrible. The axle thing is really scary. I've got Super Bell I-beam under mine. They are cast right? I'm running split bones up front. Should I be on the phone to So Cal for a forged right now?

Very simple---all cast iron products when given the "spark test", will emit a longer, flaring spark, wheras any forged steel product will, when hit with the grinder, will emit a fast sparkling one (Like the old time 4th sparklers).

In observing the break on the axle, it is my opinion that this is a CAST IRON axle,----Cheaper, but,---NOT safer!!---Also a "Forged axle" would have bent in that same situation.

Hope everyone involved is doing OK, hate to see such a neat car crunched like that!!-------Don

Very scary seeing something like that. The most important thing is the welfare of the people, then the car. With all of the offshore parts being made these days it has me thinking what could happen by saving a few bucks......not saying this is the case, but just sayin'.

  25. Deuce Daddy Don is right, a forged axle would have bent. This is not the first case of one of these snapping....doesn't matter if that caused the wreck or not...it should not fracture. Misapplication of cast iron. Class action sharks will come out and we'll have big brother into our hobby like the Aussies deal with. None of the auto makers would dare do this regardless of the $$$ savings. Where are the engineers ?

Yeah, there is a lot of wrecks on the northbound side of that bridge. Steep downhill to a curve onto the bridge. Semi's and Motorhoes get collected there a lot. Bad grooves also, even though they try to fix it every year.

Meatball, thanks for bird-dogging more info and the pictures. I couldn't find any info on the news after 5pm when I got home. The car doesn't look as bad as I thought it would for being on its top.

Hope the passengers are ok. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

  27. From SuperBells catalog!!

You guys and your axle debate... You dont even know if it WAS the cause of the wreck and youre shittin your pants all over this broken axle.

Maybe the tierod or draglink snapped or he blew a tire. Hell, he could of swirved to miss something in the road and his car was mechanically FINE! The car is so beat up now, who are you to say without a doubt what broke or failed first, if ANY thing??

That being said, I hope everyone is alive and doing well!
