That sucks Fred, glad you are ok. I was even out in dads t-bucket yesterday around 1 in the afternoon just north of there on Weslayan. Crazy! That car is wrecked now. Lucky you aint hurt too bad.

Now listen to the advice in here, lots of good stuff. City of Houston is crooked'er that a 3 dollar bill. Protect your ass. Call and request an accident report ASAP. The cops should have given you the case #. DO IT ASAP. Usually takes a 3-4 days but get it.
Honestly I think i'd rather be hit by an uninsured motorist than have to deal with City of Houston paying. Good luck.

I have nothing against cops, but I have seen enough stuff in Houston to know they suck. Some like their jobs some dont. Some are work horses, most are lazy. Personal experience, I was t-boned at Shepard and Richmond, 3 cop cars drove around the wreck and didn't stop becuase it was right at 5:30 and it was shift change at 6, they didn't want to do paperwork so they kept rolling. Thank f-in god I wasnt hurt.

Fred shit'll get better, sorry about the car, but its just a car man, you are alive, and kicking and thats what counts you get to live another day to rebuild that car.

First off I'd like to state how thrilled I am that you are ok, or ok or now. If you have Grundy or Hagerty you and your T will be taken care of no matter what happens between you and the city. Your insurance comapny will then go after the City for reimbursement. Make sure they leave the case open for medical expenses related to the accident that could happen later in your life.

Like others have said though, hire a lawyer to make sure at least your rights are protected. Good luck.

Wow, you should love your P.D. because no cops I know would finger print a breaking and entering scene. Also the uniformed cops question about the perps would be valid because detectives would be handling the investigation not the street cops. But in a town of 1600 maybe you get what you pay for.

Also if every cop you meet is a dick maybe "their" not the problem.

Now back to reality, I'm happy you weren't hurt seriously. Being a t-bucket driver this is alway's on my mind. Big city insurance can be tricky a good lawyer will give good advise without paying a retainer.

I had the same thing happen to me several years ago, The cop also tried to lie but two builders working on top of a building saw the whole thing and I the truth was told in the end. That was the day I lost any respect for the cops.
Not only did the dick head cop that totalled my brand new company car try to bullshit, but the 4 other dick head cops that turned up afterwards also started to bullshit.

My best memory is the cop car smashing of the front of my car, getting airbourne after going over a traffic island smashing through a new block wall AND THEN super cop turns on his siren and lights.

    COPS SUCK.

Glad to hear your O/K and where else can you post something like this and then have a fellow Hamber post a pic of the accident!!!!!!!!

You clearly have a green light in this picture. :D

Get a lawyer. The city is going to fight you no matter what. The jerk didn't even care about your well-being enough to offer you a seat in the air conditioned squad car. Do you think he'll willingly accept wrongdoing in this case? I'd say his first words at the accident scene should tell you all you need to know.

You'll be lucky if you don't find yourself paying for all his medical bills and wind up with a felony 'attempted murder of a peace officer' charge.

    Remember-

"Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't watching you."

    :D

  7. Good Luck to you mate. Luckily you were'nt hit by a drunk or a street racer.
Mean looking bumpers on those Houston cop cars- Hey Houston, you got a kangaroo problem too ?

First aid Means First thing. If that was not the case with the initial police response I'd be pursuing the issue.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I followed the build up of your car and all the little steps. You're lucky to have wrecked a T Bucket and lived to tell about it. You'll recover quickly and with all the help on your forums be back on the street in no time.

    Yeah, love 'em. Jackass.

There are no detectives. One horse town, remember? This break-in was the most crime we'd had in months. They were tickled shitless for some "action", their words, not mine.

I was pissed because the thieves were on foot and went out the back window they smashed as I came in the front door. This town is very sparsely populated. Only 1,600 people, spread out like half full sub-divisions, so folks on the street at 3AM stick out like a sore thumb. If the cops would have came by when I called them, they probably would have caught the bastards. Instead, they spent an hour making the 1,200 foot trip from the station to my shop, and then about an hour dumping black dust all over the place.

What pissed me off was the way they just "Oh well."-ed me. Pat me on the head and remind me to pay my taxes, so they can go back out and write more speeding tickets for 3 mph over the limit.

And BTW, I've never had a bad run-in with any of them. I know they're dicks, not by how they treat me but how they act amongst themselves, and how they treat people in general. I'm polite, I follow the law, and I do my very best not to interact with them unless I have to, so they don't give me any trouble, but that don't mean I'm blind. In a town this small, it's very easy to notice what's going on.

But hey, by all means, continue to think that folks ought to thank their lucky stars if they get the time of day from the lazy and corrupt out there. That'll sure make thinks better.

I'm not saying all cops ever are bad people, I'm just saying that all the city and most of the county and state cops I've personally met are bad people. I'm still polite, but that doesn't mean I like or respect them, it's just common courtesy.

To the OP: Sorry for the threadjack, that one post just kinda miffed me. Glad you weren't permanently damaged. Metal you can fix, flesh and bone are another matter.

  11. Glad your ok ! , sorry to hear about your car. I had my 72 El Camino stolen a year ago, the wonderful local police dept sent me a letter asking what was the statis on my car ! WTF ! Had I found it(like I lost it like some sunglasses) Not all police officers are bad, I have dealt with a few over my years and not had any major problems.

  12. No shit,I''m afraid I'll hit someone, while I'm too busy looking in the rearview mirror. First guy was doing 100 kmh (64 mph) in a 4 x 4,I ended up in rt rear seat, but seat belt was still fastened in drivers seat, where I started:eek:,the other driver's blood alcohol was .34. It's always humourous when you are in the ambulance, and the traffic report is "You". This accident is my personal record, 5 hr closure of a major commuter route,6 pm till 11 pm of a Friday evening.:D After 8 ambulance rides,I'm thinking I should get a discount or frequent flier miles.

Hey Fred, this sucks, really loved that lil' T bucket, and you worked so hard to get er done..this sucks..
In my book..Texas owes you a new T bucket..you started with a new one before one of its employees (that you help pay his salary)..negligently, caused you harm and loss..dont let these bastards off easy, you know if you were wrong, they would hang your ass out to dry..get what you deserve. Im not saying sue the bastard for things that are not true, im saying make sure you are put back to where you were before this accident, phisically, mentally, and your property restored to its original condition prior to this at fault accident..and follow up on how this is delt with in the police dept or city..
the fact that you were left to sit in your damaged car that could have caught on fire while Mr. Doughnut sucker sat in is A/C, formulating his story, is disgusting..he needs another city job, ..like cleaning up after the Drug dogs when they need to go outside.
oh yeah,, get a lawyer..and in the end make them pay for the lawyer too..'cause they aint cheap!

Glad you're ok and sorry to hear about the car. It'll be fixed eventually. Don't sign anything for a couple of weeks. Let your insurance handle it though you're probably not gonna like what they offer you for the car.

I was hit by a metro bus a couple of years ago (not in a t-bucket though). Fought them for two years.

Funny how the system is set up to be fair and impartial and that cops are supposed to be honest but I know of MANY times that they have lied in court, just like this cop is lying about your accident of you running a red light. Unfortunatly, unless you have a couple witness', the judge will take the cops word over yours everytime. And the witness had better be good.

    Sorry about your ride !

Sorry about the T, hope you get it fixed better than before.
That aside, Do as some of the others have said.

Go to the doctor and get checked out. That sore knee could bother you for years. I didn't when a gal ran me off the road and still have some of the aches and pains 19 years later.

Get a good lawyer now. To protect yourself not necessarily to make yourself and the lawyer rich.

Have the car inspected by one of the respected rod shops in the area as mentioned. They will look for damage you don't think of and give a quote that would actually represent what it would take to repair the car.

Collect every bit of information about the accident .and then the intersection you can.
If it is normal to yield to oncoming traffic on a turn in that intersection the cop would know that.

Don't be too quick to sign off on the personal injury part if the insurance adjuster shows up with a check. I did just that and then suffered through sore ribs and other effects (the truck rolled twice) for a long time afterwards. Get the money to fix the car but don't let them off the hook on yourself until you know for sure you are ok.

Good luck and we will look forward to the rebuild thread that is forthcoming.

first off, i apologize to any policemen who might be a member of the hamb, for what i am about to say.

around here, cops are fucking assholes. they'll flash their lights to get through a red light because there too damn impatient to stop. theyre nothing but a bunch of idiots who think theyre "special" because they wear a badge and have a gun. ever notice how when stuff like this happens to cops, all their buddies will come help, then try to blame YOU? i hate cops who take advantage of their job. i know for a fact that many cops in my town chose that career so they can drive fast, and have a sence of superiority. there used to be such thing as "to serve and protect", not "to be an endangerment to innocent people"

i hope you get a good settlement out of the wreck, hopefully you get enough money to get that bucket back on the road!!

I've seen both sides of the good cop bad cop coin, so I won't throw any blanket statements out.
Fred's version (and Fred has passed my personal BS meter a LONG time ago) is that the cop caused the collision, lied, bullied and tried to place blame. He also did not render first aid or offer assistance.
Every insurance company advises that you should NOT discuss blame, but instead only exchange the required information. All citizens know that ignorance is no protection from the law, and his actions on this point are inexcusable. He's had more legal training.
    Strike One.
He also did this under the color of authority.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_color_of_authority
    Strike Two.
Yet he did not offer assistance or first aid, part of his legal duties. Fred is also under the impression that he lied to other officers about the collision, perguring himself.
    Strike Three.
I hope the posters that suggested that Fred might be looking at this as a lotto have not read his posts or followed his build. His conduct here and on other boards can be seen.

Yes, all of us pay for the legal costs and damages involved here. The cop caused damage, and I for one do not begrudge Fred a single cent needed to put himself, his car and his life back together. That's the way it's supposed to work; someone suffers real damages, and they are compensated properly.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I read the threads of your cars construction and could tell how stoked you were to be able to enjoy it. You can rebuild and car. Much harder to rebuild a person. Glad you are ok.

So deep they go into each and every tax payers pocket. Getting what you need to make everythign right as it was before the incident is cool. Treating it like a money making situation is wrong.

Concur. Write down every detail. Take pictures, statements, and lawyer-up. Also, you might want to get a medical evaluation. You do not want to find out that you have a back, spinal, neck injury months or years from now.

Glad to hear you're ok. I wrecked my first Comet a few years ago as a result of someone else's stupidity, and didn't get over it for awhile. Everyone kept telling me I should just be thankful that I came out ok, but all I could think about was my car being crushed to pieces. But eventually, I ended up with what I have now, and I'm happy again.
Cops in the city where I'm from were notorious for cutting in front of you to turn (I lost count how many times it happened just to me). Obviously, he yelled out what he did to try and convince everyone else who may be in earshot that he wasn't responsible. Luckily, you had a witness, and I hope more come forward. Best of luck to you. Hope you can look forward to building up another dream soon.
