Kinda odd, anyone know where I can find a wrist pin size chart,,tried goggle but seem to get no where,,figured it could help ID some pistons. thanks
"Motor's Manual" has pin dia for each make. At the front of eack make's section. You got one of these books? Mine is 61 covers 53-61 cars.
no luck with Chiltons ,,have some like .925..980. 990 ,,1" etc ,,is it referred to as something else? should I be checking for rod end size instead of pin OD ?
It's called wrist pin dia. in my book; 57-61 Buick .9995 54-56 Buick .940 Chevy 348 .9896 Chevy 6 .8662 or .8647 Chevy 283 .9271 Chrysler, all, 55-58 .9842 Chrysler, all, 59-61 1.0936 Desoto V-8 53-57 .9217 Desoto 58-60 1.0935 Dodge 53-56 V-8 .8592 Dodge 56-58 V-8 .922 Dodge 58-61 V-8 1.093 Ford 54-61 six 272 292 .9121 Ford 58-61 332 352 390 .9752 Lincoln 53-57 .9122 Lincoln 58-61 .975 Mercury follows ford pattern. Big block Chevys and Lotus 907 engines have .990 wrist pins. My Packard had .9804 pins but I honed the rods to .990 to use common BBC parts.
It would be extremely difficult to ID pistons by wrist pin size. There are other factors least of all WP. size, Bore is the most obvious but a measurement called compression height or distance. Simply said its where the wrist pin is in relation to the top of the piston (not the top of the dome, if any). For example a Chevy 327 and 350 both have the same WP.size and bore size (4") but if you put a 327 piston in a 350 and turn the crank over you will find the piston will come out the top of the block by about an 1/8". If you had the heads on the engine would turn until a piston hit the head. Find a TRW or Speed Pro or any piston catalog and check out the different dimensions. Good Luck
I have an engine rebuilders book no wrist pins. Lists everything from cat to crosley. What size do you have? Might be in the book.
Several which have the same diameter will have different lengths and wall thickness. Got to have all three dimensions to confirm what it was for. jack vines
