I know this is an older thread but I have some information to add. About 10 years ago I saw a car on Craigslist for sale in the Long Island area. It was a black 1949 or 1950 Desoto 2 door similar to what you see in these photos. It was pretty rough and tucked away in a guy's back yard. Supposedly it was a shine runner's hot rod from back in the 50s. I don't know where it would have ran shine but I know some areas in upstate NY were dry towns or counties for a long time after prohibition. The town I live in only just lifted alcohol distilling and sales restrictions about 15 years ago.
