yeah i'd use more generic keywords on the title,
you get more hits from rich dumbasses,
(lowrider, rat rod, flathead, etc. depending on car type...)

I just sold a hunk of cr*p roadster on ebay,
it got what it was worth, not over or low,
but it got over 11,000 hits just cause of
    1-the title
2-the $20 picture on top feature,
    3-absolutely no starting bid

    anyway,

    good luck,

    tp aka zibo

ALWAYS start out really low if you're gonna' do the Ebay route on a sale. a bidding frenzy will usually start right away. If you start out high, it'll usually scare away a lot of potential buyers. I like your car, and I wish you luck. I'm in the process of selling a 26 T roadster now, and so far I think I've found every tire-kicker in the midwest to argue with. Haven't gone to Ebay yet, but if I do, and I don't get my bottom-line price, than screw it! I'll just keep a hot rod I've loved driving the last 1200 miles and forget all about the sales rat-race!

Well, I don't know much about cuctoms but I watch those throwed together pos "old schoolrods" bringing 15-20,000 just because they have a flatty and 40 juice brakes. I guess we can see what we should be building if we intend to sell.

I agree with the masses. If I had 16.5K to spend on a car, I'd be all over this, but I'd want all the little shit fixed. Touch up the paint chip, put the glass in and the garnish mouldings, make the hood functional, hog ring a piece of material over the front seat.

You say how the glass, hood repair, and garnishes are minor repairs. If I'm spending the big bucks, I want that stuff done before I buy it. If you could eliminate that list of all the little "minor" shit that needs to be done, there'd be more people interested. From what I read in the description, this is a 16K project car that needs things finished. Nobody pays shit for anything that isn't fully functional as-is. Sure, you can drive it around, but no hood, no side glass? That's not really roadworthy.

Getting ready to let a car broker friend of mine try to sell my wagon on ebay. Hope he has better luck with it than I have. He's sold every car he's ever listed though, my car will probaly be the one to break his streak though!:p

You should finish the car and keep it or sell it at one of those big shows your always attending for a shitload.

  8. I read thought the breaks worked well...caps didn't really mean much to me until they were pointed out. Maybe italics?

If I had access to 16 or so I would buy it,finish it,and sell it for the $30 you think it's really worth! If I had some time I would work something out with you. where I did the work and we split the profit above 16.5 Maybe get someone to do that...Matt Seret maybe...or Alex???fix anything you feel wierd about and make it SOLID...and let one of these expert adwriters have a go at it...couldn't hurt!

I had real good luck listing in the old car book...you have to wait a month or two for the ad to come out,but it works.

my take- it's LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Somewhere, there WILL be somebody willing to pay more than the asking price. But the trouble is hooking up with them and making sure they see it.

I've sold three vehicles through eBay.

The first one was wierd- a 2.5 ton M35 army cargo truck. I listed it right before Hurricane Katrina hit. by the time it had three days left, there were 150 watchers, no bids. I lowered the price 15 TIMES, and still no bids!
When I saw the destruction in the gulf, and the other M35's easily handling the flood waters, I had second thoughts. I raised the price $1,000, knowing that nobody would bid on it, and I wouldn't have to part with it. I was taking a trip to Seattle that weekend, and when I got there I immediately logged on to eBay to cancel the listing, but somebody had bought it now! They figured I would keep lowering it, but when they saw me raise it they jumped immediately. You just never know. I like to update my pages continuously- two or three times a day to keep people checking back. It keeps it fresh in their mind, and if there's uncertainty, that may initiate some people to buy.

I listed two motorcycles on eBay a few weeks ago- the ONLY ones on the west coast, with less than 2,000 miles, with buy it now prices, and a desireable model. I got quite a few watchers on each, but nobody bid. I lowered the price $500 before getting a bid on one, and the other went unsold. I ended up selling that one to a guy that got outbid on the other, so it worked out. It's a tough market- cash is tight, and hooking up with potential buyers is key. With all the vehicles I listed, I had them simultaneously listed on Craigslist, my website, and EVERY bulletin board I was part of. The cross advertising paid off, and they went to eBay to check them out.

Spell out all options- suggest shipping companies, say that you will accept bank loan checks, etc. Make it easy on the buyer. Shipping and cash in hand are absolutely the two biggest problems with buying a car on the internet. As far as sounding like a dick in your ad, I dod the same thing. I like EVERY SINGLE detail listed, and no unanswered questions. I think if people know that you are serious about selling and know about the car and have every detail worked out, they are more willing to deal with you. I can't stand the guys selling big dollar cars or items, with one or two pictures, and a two line description. "Great car> Any questions please call" Get Bent!

good Christ people. thats one long post... i'm not reading all that..

KIRK! maybe it's a sign. maybe your just ment to keep this one a bit longer. i saw it on Ebay and i half concidered takin out a loan and buying it but i've been working very hard to get out of debt since my divorce and i don't want to take a step backwards just yet... plus i have like 10 other cars in a billion pieces...

it realy is a mystery to me. i mean, with the Olds grill it's not nearly as ugly as it could be :D... shit if a certain HAMBer could get 11k for that shit box 49/50 Chevy he completely hacked all to hell you should be able to get at least 250K for your ride... i'm not kidding... if you know the car i'm talkin about you KNOW that somebody got FUCKED when they bought that thing.

i'd say hold on to it a while and finish her up. drive it and enjoy it and sooner or later the right buyer will find you.

    Brother Kirk....

    Reality break here.

I used to train sales people.
No one ever sold ANYTHING by begining their sales pitch with "Well this sucks and this is broke."
The public EXPECTS to hear the good things about your product ..whatever it is.
BY ALL MEANS if they ask, tell them the absolute truth. BUT... LET THEM ASK.
I had two rules... 1. Don't lie to me 2. Don't lie to the customer.
The rest we can sort out.
My teams had great repeat business because we SOLD the product on its good points and were dead honest on all questions.

There are two major classes of bidders in my humble opinion....them with cash and the dreamers. Your customer here is them with cash. the dreamers want the rusted hulk and hope to build what you've got. Them with cash are wanting to be sold on your car.

Sell the good stuff. BOASTING IS ALLOWED and even EXPECTED.
Sex SELLS. Get some pics that are stimulating, not bland.
Be ready to send photos via email of the 'less than spectatcular" stuff IF ASKED.
Promise and deliver quick responses to all questions and include them in the ad.

The botton line is...get their blood boiling BEFORE you show them the warts.

That's a great car and DESERVES a high price.

    Glenn
