April 2013 Street Rodder article on doing the interior of a truck (page 108) says they use KB board for the base of the upholstery... WTF is KB board?
Beats me, when I googled KB board this thread came up 11th after knitting board...must not be too popular!
It's probably a name for fiberboard that's a pretty common board found at most Automotive Upholstery shops. HRP
Must be used like masonite or luan(thin plywood) for sub panels instead of carboard like GM used in the 80's.
http://www.shop3m.com/60980027043.html Looking at this, I would say it's that thin fiber board, like HRP said, that they sometimes use to skin door panels and headliners. Kinda like particle board.
In other words nobody really knows exactly what it is... I would like to know if it's some special shit I can use
If you look past my granddaughter at the passenger side door panel you will see what the upholstery fiberboard looks like. HRP
Never heard of it. Is it for door panels and such? If so I use 1/8" (3mm) PVC Foam Board. I get it in 4x8 sheets at a sign shop. Its waterproof, doesnt warp and is easy to cut with a box knife or fine tooth saw blades. It can be sanded and forms with a heat gun. Its about $30 a sheet. It goes by the brand names Maxxion, CelTec, Komatex, Sintra, and Palight. Here it is being used in a 37 Dodge I am trimming.
We buy it by the case at the Automotive supply in Duncan,South Carolina,,4' x 8' sheets,,been using it for years,,it's bendable, and designed for package shelves, door panels, kick panels or whatever you need. This is what we used on the doors, body panels and kick panels to glue the foam and vinyl to in the wagon. HRP
who cares about KB board anymore? I'd say that picture of Veda just Hijacked this thread, bigtime! WHATACUTIE! Congrats HRP!
So far - HAMB 0 KB board 1 What the hell are you "period correct" guys using to make door panels? Some kind of primitive fossilized material?
Funny, that was my first thought!! What it is, is a difference generated by linguistic regional dialects, basically it is an object you know with a different name for it. When you work out what it is,you wonder how that part of the country gets by calling things by stupid names! Not that you give a fuck what I thought or why they call things differently in other places. Anyone got a spare life I can have? Bored. Doc.
Looks like the Masonite board that you can by at the lumber yard. Iv'e used it for package trays in Ford cars.
Just look through all the advert pages - there's bound to be one for it somewhere in there or they wouldn't have mentioned it!
Here is a similar panel that beachbum jim is using http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161702&highlight=pennies
