Buddy of mine just picked it up. No drivetrain. Titled as a '27 Pontiac.

Any ideas on exactly what he has here?

    Thanks

That is very cool indeed !
I could be way off here, but the boat tailed section looks like what you get, when you use the hoods off of older trucks such as these IHC truck hoods, to make the boat tail. That rig is begging for a cool built 6 banger with a string of Webber carburetor's and some Clifford Research components ! IMHO!

Yeah, it's definitely cool and home-built.

I didn't even think about a Poncho OHC 6; that would be cool. A straight 8 would be mighty fine as well.

  11. At least in my State the fact that is a truck frame means it would be taxed at a higher rate due to the weight of the truck on the title

I'd say that it started out as the same series of 27 Pontiac as this landau sedan.
I'd swap out the 3/4 ton axles for 1/2 ton axles. There are a lot of flathead six or 8 Pontiac engines 27 Pontiac Landou sedan.jpg floating around if he wants to stay Vintage Pontiac.

That would be a fun build. You could pick some obscure straight 8 engine and have some fun with it. It does need rear fenders that mate with the body though.

One of these cool, flat head straight 8's, would look great for this cool Pontiac " Boat tailed " speedster.

Anyone want to take a stab at value? I realize that this is a tough question to answer, but a rough guesstimate would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  21. As it sits, not much over scrap value. Finished, maybe 2/3 the cost to finish. The fun , priceless.

Yep. Wondering if that was by design or if that's just what they had laying around? My buddy didn't get a lot of history on the car.

My vision is weird. But I could picture that with talk and narrow wood spoked wheels and tires, remove the front fenders and make a filler that resembles the rear of the car. And yes. Some inline 6 or 8 FH would be neat.

I think it's a post-war Hudson hood, even looks like a little notch where the Hudson center emblem went is still there, not filled in by the lower filler piece. Also notice how the sides of the hood flare out on the ends which the Cadillac and late 30's Hudson hoods do not.

I totally get the "open wheeled" current state of this Pontiac "roadster /speedster" , so these shots of this Auburn replica, are purely as a visual aid, to some possibilities of how to finish off the rear end. Seeing how it already has very cool front fenders, IMHO, that body could really look cool with some big ass pontoon fenders for the rear !
