Found this chevy truck and the guy said he thought it was an ambulance from WWII. No interior but very little rust and the inline 6 is still there. He said it ran about 2 years ago??? Anyone know what it is and the year?

Can't say for sure what year it is, but I'd bet a dollar that a 37 chevy grille will fit.

According to the Engineering Division in the "1937 Chevrolet Specifications for Passenger Cars & Trucks" dated 11-18-36, the "Vehicle Serial Numbers" are "On plate under hood on right side of cowl panel".

Looks cool and indecent shape. However, I wouldn't count much on that ran 2 years ago line. Judging by that paint, no glass, etc, my guess is he left off the 10 or 20 years part. Nice find and would be a cool project regardless.

I have purchased many a car that "ran two or three years ago" - they ALL looked better than that one. Not that it isn't a great find, and certainly worthy of restoration/rodding, but what he meant was he "ran" the last interested guy off his property "two or three years ago". Sometimes them farmers mumble just a little bit.

Might have been used as an ambulance during WWII, but not an Army owned rig.

The very second I saw that picture, my memory returned to my childhood around 1944/45. Our 'WATKINS' man had one just like that, faded paint and all! He would come through the rural are where our farm was, about once a month, with Vanilla, brushes, all sorts of household products.

May be too old to be an WWII military ambulance, once the war cracked off we started making tons of new stuff. Maybe a private ambulance. It could be possible though. 37, means it would have only been four or five years old at the time war broke out. How long did the army keep their vehicles in service back then? either way thats a cool truck...

Thats a cool looking truck if it was me i would buy it and build it. But it does look like a 37 Chevy and it looks like its in good condition for its age.
