Last month the Madison Airport had a B-17 come on its one of its stops before EAA Airshow. They had a WWII style hanger dance the night it was in town. Being a WWII reenactor I thought it would be a good time. So myself, my Girlfriend and my Brother (also a reenactor) went on over. To my surprise there were two real cool 1940s Lincolns there also. I belive both are 1941s. The second one is a Zephyr. I spent quite awhile talking to the owner of the first car. Nice guy. Says he drives his car as many times a week as he can. Both cars are drivers. Chipped paint and rusty chrome. They looked cool together. Well I know they are not customs but I thought I would share anyway.
hell yeah! love WWII planes and shit, i wanna do wwII reinacting. keep getting outbid on ebay DUR!(on uniforms)
One was here in town a few years ago went on a tour of it they look so big but when your inside every thing is very tight not alot or room. very cool though. they were giving rides didnt have the money but did see and hear it fly over a few times man what a cool sound all four engines. I live along lake mich and when they have the air show up the lake they seem to fly along the lake. a few years ago four or five jap zeros flew over. they may not have been zero they may have been t-6 painted like zeros but either way it was very cool. bret
Great pics! When I was on my way to Pontiac Illinois last weekend for the Rockin' Rods show,I had stopped at a gas station and they flew overhead.I don't know where they were going but there were four aircraft together(looked like F-8F Bearcats and an A-26)and then the B-17 and the B-24 shortly after.Nothing like the sound of multi-cylinder radials at low altitude to get your blood pumping.
One of what I understand are the five remaining flying B-17's is on display at my local airport for the week. The Trenton/Bar Harbor (Maine) airport has the plane on display from today until next friday. I guess they're even selling flights on her ($400.00), which makes me drool.
Awesome pictures, Brian! The B-17 is beautiful! It's always been one of my favorite American bombers, especially after watching The Memphis Bell so many times as a kid! The Lincoln's are sharp! My uncle owns a pair of '42 Continentals (two of some 350 made, I believe) one being a hardtop coupe and the other a cabriolet. The Coupe, which is restored to completely original condition, is one of the classiest cars I've ever seen! The grilles on the '42 model are like those of the later 46's, though, so that Zephyr-type grille wasn't able to make it to them, sadly. Oh well! Spiffy outfits, by the way! Thanks for sharing! -Gregory-
Great pictures. One of my old buddies was a belly gunner on a 17 in WW2. Tough ol' SOB, he would have been the skid pad if the landing gear didn't work. No better way to display the Lincolns then with vintage aircraft.
wow that is so cool. I would love to re-enact WW2 uniforms and soldiers. The planes are beautiful Thanks for sharing and great picts....almost looks like the real deal in 41'.
Hey, Speakin' of the fourty Lincolns and customs...... the '40 Lincoln Contentials started life as factory built customs. Ford would yank a Zepher drop-top from the line, extend the cowl and hood, pancake it, add Contential trim, and a Contie was born. The panels for the fourty models were actually hand made, in the same shops that ford used to build the TRI-Motor airplanes in, the '41 models had panels pressed from dies. If ya ever see a '40 naked you'll shit a brick....lots of lead and smaller steel pieces welded together....like a custom. Zephers are rarer than Contentials today because the transmissions made good hot rod gear and a Zepher was jus' an old ford.
Wow! Get those pics of you and your girl in Black and white!! How freakin ROMANTIC!!!!!! Ewwwwww!! Now all I need is a WWII serviceman and a Lincoln to sweep me off my feet. Hmm sorry, I'll stop gushing now.........te he! God, I'm such a girl. Nice planes, I LOVE WWII planes! xxx Brandy
Sweet plane! Nice Linc's too. I had a chance to walk through the Yankee Lady last year at the Akron air show. That was the BEST 5 bucks I ever spent! I went a few days earlier to get a sneak peak at FI-FI (B-29), and a B-24. I walked into the B-24 and there was an older gentleman standing in the cockpit with a very sad look on his face. A few minutes later he told me he was a war time pilot and flew many missions in a B-24. We sat in the back for an hour or more while he told me stories of his missions. To most that would sound boring, but I enjoyed every minute of it!
I second the black and white suggestion! They re enacted a battle last weekend at Yankee's Thunder over Michigan in a soybean field. It was pretty sweet. The "Germans" had full auto stuff, but we had "Jugs" and a tank! Cool stuff. Jay
Hey folks, thanks. I'm really glad you like the pics. I was kinda leary about posting them. but I figure most folks like the 40s and planes and cars. Whats not to love? Here is some of the pics with a little photoshop action. I think they turned out pretty cool.

dang is that an airworthy b-24? a "D", too, by the looks of it. the b-17 is cool too but i'm not sure what it is but it looks like it spent some time as a firefighting plane.
