Hot Rods WWII hanger ...find... found, 32 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dirtyest Devil, Sep 8, 2010.

  1. I found a hanger I mean, while in my 32 Ford...

While out driving the other day, I stumbled onto an old army base. I decided to pull over and take some pics. While snapping away I was surrounded, by a history freak. I was then invited to enter the non working base for a tour after I volunteered to help fix a building. When I told the historian in charge of the old base, all I do.... he gave me free reign to pick an old building and start using it. Looks like I'm going to start a non profit museum. Early pre and post war hot rods with history. Really, I get to do some good deeds, help a cause, and get to store some more of my stuff. More later as I gotta run.

If anyone wants to help... I got a few ideas up my sleeve! There are so many unused buildings in need of help or sponcership.

NO F-IN WAY! REALLY! Thats just awesome:) will they let you use the other buildings for "in progress builds"? can u store stuff? insurance? electrical service? I'm just droolin' none of that cheap industrial space is available out where i live. i can see all kinds of up-side potetial on this deal if you can form a group of HAMBERS that have some "financial" CRED. Good lord, I almost would move to N.J.:eek::eek:OK,i wouldn't move to N.J. but you know what i mean.:p

  12. Long story short, the base was closed years ago and put on a list to be demolished. A historic society was given a few years to clean it up and get some viable organizations going to house empty buildings or else. The two gents incharge are cool, smart, but lack man power and most know how.
Any building can be cleaned up to house non profit organazations. So far there is a small military museum, some history stations of the bases prior history, a surfing museum, and a radio operators museum, and a guy with some army jeeps and such. Boy scouts, eagle scouts, lifeguards, all also help and have a part in the place. They do have a small car show, but I hope to do a neat little show when I get enough cleaned out and ready to go. Have a few other neat ideas in the vault too... maybe a little movie theater, etc. All old time style stuff.

  13. Camp Evans, like the heads! It was the 1st radar station on the east coast, with a sister station in Ca.

Whoa Mel! Were the heck is that, sounds like good cleanup project for my Scout den or at the very least a good "Go see it" activity.

  24. Thanks guy for the offers... I'll let you guys know when something might go down. USMC myself. This place is sick...

I only filmed a few buildings. There are hoards of old hangers, warehouses, etc. I just got a new camera, so I'll go back and take some film. Just shot this and uploaded for the 1st time. Now I need to get some action shots. Stay tuned.

Part of Ft. Monmouth? That was a big Army Signal Corps training location during WWII. That radio museum fits right in. They trained telegraph (Morse code) operators there too.

That is cool! Now you need a drag strip for "exhibition" purposes.

Building designed by Buckminster Fuller. It's called a Dymaxion Deployment Unit. Was designed to be prefabbed housing but adopted by the military. It may be a historic building in it's own right. If they have to tear that one down I'd drive from NC to pick it up.
