I am building my x-member very similiar to the dagel's style x-member for the model A frame. I have a 30' model A frame that I have boxed and kicked up 8" in the rear, the question that I have is the angles on the front and rear legs. looking at pictures of the dagel's x-member the front legs seem to be about 20 degrees out from the center section and the rear legs seem to be about 25 degrees out. Most of the other channel style x-members that I have seen have the rear legs kicked out a little more than the front as well. I would like to get as close to the dagel's x-member as possible so that I could use their pedal mounts. If anyone has a dagels and knows the angles of the legs I would appreciate some help. Thanks...
Those of you that have built your own x-members, what angles worked out best for you and what kind of a set-up have you used for the ladder bar mounts and brake/clutch pedal ***y? I did do a search I just want to get some more info and testimony about why you chose the particular setup that you used and what if anything you would chose to change about it if you had it to do again.
Just like Jack said, get the engine and transmission in place then build the X-member around it. Make sure your conscious of where the firewall is, you don't want the X-member to stick out in front of it into the engine bay. . . that will look really bad.
I have a good idea of where the engine and trans will be but I cant mock it up yet. My engine is in the machine shop right now, I am putting a 55' 331 hemi in it with a Muncie three speed but I dont have a transmission adapter yet and all of my available funds are tied up in engine parts and machine work. I just want to get a good idea of what would work with my set-up.
