On my 1962 F250 4x4 I want to run dual exhaust. I know headers or Rams horns are an option but if I want to go low budget, I can block off the passenger front inlet and run out the back. But on the driver side can I just flip over that manifold or do I run into interference with the steering box and clutch linkage. If so does anyone know of a driver side manifold that will work?

The common way was just to drop down the front on the driver’s side. Cheap, not much more than a flange and exhaust tubing . Not very elegant, but those log manifolds aren’t the greatest in the first place. Anything else you’ll just have to eyeball and see.

You might ask over at the Ford Barn or yblocksforever. Possibly someone who didn’t just find a set of rams horns and add them. They’re pretty good for flow.

The rams horn manifolds flow better than half the headers available as per Ted Eaton’s testing. Can be found on f500-800 trucks, worth looking for in my opinion as they avoid the busy spots, ie front/ back of the engine

I’d get a cast iron left side from a passenger car 57-62 would be best if you have the clearance around the steering post and shifter. They didn’t cross over at the front like the earlier or pickups.

For some reason, maybe I read it, the clutch linkage is in the way. Maybe complicated by the truck bellhousing with the mounting ears. Maybe the shift linkage if it’s a light duty 3 speed on the column as opposed to the floor shifted granny low 4 speed. Just can’t remember for sure and could be wrong. That’s why I suggest the other sites.

Here’s the link to Ted’s exhaust test. This page is near the end with the most complete chart of combinations. Remember it’s on his 312 test mule, which is a pretty stout engine. But the whole thing is worth skimming though, interesting reading for y block guys.

Speedway makes a great Y block header that will fit your truck .Got them in mine with the rear mount ears on the bellhousing and a manual trans ( OEM 3 speed)no problems with clearance .In fact it is the only set of headers that I never had to tweak.
