So I have a '59 292 y block in my '30 ford, it has a mild cam in it and a '57 4 barrel cast iron manifold and a '56 Buick carb on top. I had the small heads on the engine, about 8 to 1 compression ratio. I picked up some ECZ-G heads that brought the compression up to about 9 to 1 and also gave me larger intake valves. I also installed higher ratio rockers. The question is should I have to change ign. timing now? the car runs good and idles more radical and I had to speed up the idle to keep it running (auto trans) but it just does not seem to have any more power then before. should I expect any more power?
How do your spark plugs look? Put in a clean set, get her hot, run down the road WOT and shut it down, pull the plug, and take a pic. You can tell a lot about ignition and fuel from the plugs.
Contact mctim64 and ask him what you should do in regards to timing and what you should expect from your Y block. he is a wealth of info on that topic.
Yes, I ran the valves again last night, some were alittle tight but still had clearance. I don't think I have a vacume leak, I say that because the intake is SO simple on this motor. Did not pull the plugs but I will. I'll try mctim64 and see what he says.
