Technical Y Block exhaust manifolds

In 1957 my folks bought a new Ford Country Sedan. Very soon after a manifold cracked and was replaced bt the dealer and it cracked again in a short time. This was a 292. Was this common?

 

It may have been in the 50's although my folks bought a new Mercury wagon in 56 and never had exhaust manifold problems. I had a good number of Y blocks in the early 60's and I don't remember ever replacing an exhaust manifold. Most of my cars did have factory dual exhaust except my 54 Merc convertible.

 

Do the truck style Y shaped manifolds break like the passenger car manifolds?

 

Fentons would look nice?

 

Didn’t like the answers on your previous thread? If they are installed correctly, no it’s not common for them to break

 

Of all my y blocks, I only had 1 manifold crack at the mounting ear. I have had 8 and parts for 10 from 56 to 62.

 

I’d buy a set in a heart beat..

 

I sold a few back in the day. I think certain ones had this flaw.

 

All that I ever saw break, were on the 57's. And all of those were on the passenger side.

 

My dad bought a new Fairelane 500 sport coupe in 1957. It had a 312 with fordomatic trans. The left exhaust manifold cracked at the front bolt hole 2 or 3 times. He believed it was due to the power steering pump/reservoir bracket being attached at that bolt. It always made a ticking noise until it warmed up. several years later I solved the problem...headers.
