    Hey fellas,

So my car has been acting really funny lately. The fuel pump( inline electric) will turn on when key is in the on position. Good. Then it will fill up the carb. Good. Once the carb is full, it will hardly pump gas up to the filter. The filter will almost be empty except for a few drops. Everytime the carb runs out of gas, my car stalls out. So I went to buy a new inline fuel pump and the local stores dont carry my inline fuel pump anymore. So instead of dropping 100 bucks on a new Holley electric, Ive been thinking about going back to a mechanical fuel pump. I'll still leave room under the car for an inline filter though. Anyone have any suggestions on if I should go mechanical or stay electric? All tips or advice would be awesome.

    Thanks guys,
    Rocky

I hate mechanical fuel pumps. I've not had any luck with them, vapor locking made the merc we owned almost un-drivable, and despite some initial troubles, the electric pump has always done me well on my car.

What kind of carb are you running? If you're running a 94, the Mr. gasket pump for "4 cyl" engines is a god-send. Low pressure, and small.

That being said, I can understand a mechanical pump if you don't have any concerns or any previous concerns about vapor locking.

If you still have the 2 barrell on a Carter P60504 can be had at rockauto.com or Amazon.com for around $46.Amazon may offer free shipping. If you have the Holley 4 barrell on you had in a Pic I would use this pump from www.kmjent.com put PC2801 in the search box still under $50.CAUTION you should have a filter between the tank and the pump DO NOT use one with a paper element,I found out the hard way(new pump fried in less than 2 hours) even Summit Racing is cautioning customers about this.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. Im still running a 2 barrell. I just stole my brothers and put it on. Its a Motorcraft. Not going with the 4 barrell for a while yet. If I ever decide to go that route. Ive heard a little about vapor locking, not a lot. It sounds like something I don't want to get involved in. I'm gonna order that Carter from Amazon. I have a gift certificate for there that I got from work. So my work is paying for half of my fuel pump, and Im perfectly ok with that. Thanks Jeff!
