I have found a few threads on this mostly installed into the 49-51 cars, but only brief info about install in a 52-53 car. So, I am looking for some info on swapping this into my 53 coupr (a 52 would be the same I imagine).

I’ve got 53 coupe with the flathead / 3sp w overdrive transmission, and depending on what’s needed I would like to put a y block in it. The flathead needs an overhaul, and as much as I like flatheads, Im getting a very clean 292 from a friend for next to nothing that I would like to put in it.

I definitely want to keep the 3sp w overdrive trans. Im fine with dropping the steering link if I have to but I would like to do this without cutting up the front crossmember.

So I guess my questions are, for one has anyone done this and what was needed? Will a y block bolt direct to my transmission? What clutch/ adapter will be needed to make it work? Will a certain oil pan eliminate the need to alter the front crossmember and/or drag link?

    Thank you!

I got nothing from the links, so hopefully someone will pipe in with some recent info. I too am looking at installing a spare Y Block into my 53 Ute.
