Fellas - I am shoving a 239 Y-Block (1953 F-100 I was told) into my 1932 3 window and need a little more room for the oil filter due to the F100 added steering box. Do the typical kits on Speedway/Amazon (Derale 15715) fit this year Y-Block?
If my memory is correct the big trucks had a angled oil filter****embly, now it was a canister filter but the spin on adapter might be able to,be used. I never had one apart and only looked at them.
You'll need a spin-on filter adapter first, then the remote kit should work. But, just going to a spin on may buy you the space you need. Especially if you use a shorter filter than normal. Lots of them are the same at the gasket/thread area.
There have been a lot of leak problems with some of the spin on adapters lately. Here’s a link to a fairly recent discussion over on the barn. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326435&highlight=Oil+filter+adapter Odd things sometimes happened with Ford, but the 239/256 y blocks were a 1954 introduction, not 53. If it’s a good running engine, go for it. But if it’s going to need a rebuild do your research first. There’s some noticeable differences between them and the 272/292/312 engines. Parts can be a problem. If you’ve already gone thru it then it you know this by now.
As junkyardjeff mentioned, Ford used a factory installed angled oil filter adapter. You might be able find one in a junkyard or you can buy one online from Summit or any of the online venders. I just read that these adapters can be found on Ford Explorers and an older version was used in Ford vans in the mid 60’s.
Once you get a proper spin in adapter on the block, any of those made to fit the same filter will work, and it’s a common filter. This is one from random on epay, don’t know if it’s a good one or a leaker. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1954-64-Ford-Y-Block-Spin-on-Oil-Filter-Conversion-KIT/162923551615? _trkparms=amclksrc=ITM&aid=1110006&algo=HOMESPLICE.SIM&ao=1&asc=20200818143230&meid=3d8dae651a604bb3905df5f443989718&pid=101224&rk=3&rkt=5&sd=125765199616&itm=162923551615&pmt=1&noa=1&pg=2047675&algv=DefaultOrganicWebV9BertRefreshRanker&_trksid=p2047675.c101224.m-1&pageci=0b89f120-afd2-4b71-8755-5339af5a3bec&redirect=mobile I doubt you’ll find a kit specifically for a y block.
