After taking time to fix the rear main seal leak on my 312 Y-block the new neoprene one still leaks. I was hoping to swap the ford-o-matic out for a 4 speed toploader but now I dont know. I'm afraid oil will find it's way onto the flywheel/clutch disk and cause it to slip. Any suggestions? Or should I just take the gamble and put the toploader in?

I didn't think they made a neoprene seal for a 312. If I'm not mistaken, a 312 should be a rope seal still. I know they make a neoprene seal for everything else (272,292 .......) but that crank is different in the 312. I would find the cause of the leak before throwing a clutch in the mix... Just my .02. Good luck.

It may not be the rear main seal - could be the side seals in the retainer. I would go back and look at it to make sure what's leaking. I got one of the neoprene seals on my 312 and it does not leak.
