I have a water leak from the back of a 312 Y block in my 56 T-Bird. It is dripping from the transmission inspection cover after the engine has been warmed up and there is pressure in the system. Are there core plugs in the back of the engine that could be the problem? Or where else could the water be coming from? The engine was rebuilt 20 years ago and has been sitting all this time. It runs great, except for the leak. Also it does have clean looking antifreeze in it.

Retorque the heads first, would be my suggestion, not many bolts on a yblock might even try 10# more also . The heads also have plugs in the rear coolant passages that are prone to corrosion and leaks

No core plugs in the rear of a y-block. just the cam plug. DSC00494.JPG

Thanks, I found my leak. It was at the front of the engine under the thermostat and running back on the Valley cover then down between the engine and bell housing. So it looked like it was coming from the back of the engine.

That and the small hose that runs from the T-stat housing are common places for leaks on the Y block.

And the leak runs to the back on the pressed edges of the valley cover…
