Howdy. What a Kick-*** forum. I'm glad I found it. Thanks Darlin. So my dream of having a place to wrench has finally come true. Now I just need something to wrench on. I am looking for a couple '79 or earlier XS650s to Bob. I'm finding some online that would suit my needs, but they are all too far away. I live in Wichita. I was hoping that if you folks run across any (basket-cases preferred) within, oh, 200 miles or so of me, you could give me a heads-up. Thanks.
Welcome...And just so you know, this is first and formost a place to talk about traditional hot rods and customs. That said, there are a few bike builders who share their builds too...and the boss loves 'em so it's not like you're unwelcome here or anything. Just wanted to avoid any drama and let you know what's up if you didn't already. A bit of a contradiction sometimes but this place isn't about steadfast rules.....and you need to talk to Hatch about building rediculously cool bikes from something you couldn't possibly think was cool at first glance.
Thank you Sir. Yeah, I was kind of worried about that, but I saw some other posts on here about them, so I went for it. Once I get these out of my system, I'll put my new garage to better use, I promise. Got my eye on a '49 Cadillac....
Hey CountryMoney welcome to the HAMB! I have a complete front-end that would work on a xs650, let me know if your intrested.
Thanks for the welcome. I feel at home already... Well, I do have a line on a frame and motor here in town, soo... What are you needin' for that? Would you be inclined to ship it?
if I were building a xs650, it would be a flat track clone, omars in minnesota makes pretty cool parts for such a thing, just my .02 cents...
Can you use a chopper frame made for a Bonneville without too much modification? Do the engines bolt in the same?
Damn, another 650 dude. We gotta keep these things quiet so they are still cheap when I go to buy one to make one like this... You can see where the pic is lifted from. Welcome, and show lots of pix. Jay
Thanks Dan. They got some cool stuff (www.omarsDTR.com), but I'm gonna be doin the hard tail conversion. Goin for that old Triumph Thunderbird or BSA look. Black Widow Choppers (www.bwchoppers.com) in Wisconsin has some handy stuff. If I get scared, and don't want to build it myself, I may get their hard tail.
Baytown, what you got? You musta missed my thread a few days ago about looking for a longer fork for a xs.
That's pushing it on the rake of those hydro front forks and it needs a rear fender to keep the gunk strip off your shirt, but it looks cool. I wouldn't want to drive it far.
[ QUOTE ] Can you use a chopper frame made for a Bonneville without too much modification? Do the engines bolt in the same? [/ QUOTE ] Hey Joe, if you're gettin' rid of a Bonny chopper frame, let me know. Oh and welcome to the HAMB there, Country Money. Have fun, but I'm keepin' an eye on a guy that leads with a Yammy bike intro.
How embarr***ing. I can't help it though. I don't know what's gotten into me. I HAVE to make one- or two. I can't help it that the rich guys have hi-jacked all the "prestigous" motorcycles. These are all I can afford, right now.
I just decided to sell my current XS650 hard tail project. It is almost ready for paint but I just got my hands on another bike so this one has to go. I'll try to get some pictures of it posted. It has so much custom fabricated stuff I can't list it all here. It's old school with black frame, red rims, stainless spokes, wide white rear, black springer front end and the list goes on. I need to get about $2500 so it may not be in your price range.
Yeah, a little out of my range, besides, you already had all the fun. OK, BigDdy31's got me feelin all self-conscious now - so... Very first car - '49 Willys Wagon - Man, I wish I still had that! I've also loved and saved these from certain doom: '68 Chevy Pick Up - lost my virgintiy in this truck. '69 Valiant - 4D Baby! '67 Corvair - When I lived in Houston, I'd have to pull off the highway from time to time during rush hour traffic, buy bags of ice and set them around the motor cowling. Hey, it worked. '65 Corvair- "Flo" - R.I.P. One day I will steal my uncles '58 Impala, but first, the quintessential country-band-touring-vehicle - a CADILLAC!
