I got a new timing chain set to put on my 292. Does anyone know if there is two different thickness' of the cam gear? I bottom out the screw on the cam gear bolt and the fuel pump eccentric is still loose. By over .045, as measured with feeler gauges. It appears that the cam gear was machined more on the backside of the gear towards the block by how the spacer in front rocks on the key in front......

Order of ***embly was the same as how the old timing gear came off.....

    Gear, spacer, washer, screw.....

Does the chain look like it's running straight with the spacer on the outside of the gear?

Post a picture of timing chain and gears installed... A front and side view would be cool... Thanks!

Im not at home right now to take a pic, but when looking at it earlier it looked as though the gears would line ip if i pushed the cam gear out about the .050 there is for a gap. Only pic i took, and you can kinda tell the spacer is behind the washer on the old setup. It has to be or else it hits the key for the fuel pump eccentric. Spacer has a bevel on it to clear the key. 20180810_103236.jpg

I'm hoping someone may chime in and say, "Yeah, I had this problem because they sent me a timing set for the early yblocks" or something like that....

I am thinking about making a shim for behind the gear to space it out.....

Could be, but there.......just wait, could that be stuck to the back of the old gear....hmmm. I read an article that said some yblocks had the eccentric weights and some didnt. This one didnt.....in front of the gear at least.
