I bring this to the top every few years.
It always brings a tear thinking about my and my wife’s family. we just lost my wife’s mother of 92.
I have been married now for 49 years.
Every Sunday at 5:00 this woman would cook for her family of five kids, six grandkids, three in laws and five great grandkids and who ever else showed.
Not kidding. This is true. She was an angel.

Thank you!, my Dad would have been 100 years old this July. He told me to re use my paper lunch bags as a kid, they lasted month's ( when I emptied my lunch on the table at school, I sat on the bag, then folded it and took it back to my Mom,). Those values have served me well.

As a city type kid I experienced some of what was said here-my parents were depression era folks who had left the farm-they never spoke of it, ever. My grandparents lived on a farm in Oklahoma and i stayed with them during the summers and every chance i got-i loved it. They did everything mentioned above and more-on the farm you grew what you ate, or killed. Money hardly existed, neighbors were the lifeblood. I've always said i never worked a day in my life after leaving that farm-most folks nowadays think i lie when i tell them some of the stories from then so now i don't even bother. Some of you here know what i'm saying, and i thank goodness i had the chance to understand what really hard times are--we're kidding ourselves if we think we had it rough.
(oh my, my iphone service just failed-think i'll go to the ER!) Tough times indeed.

    Hello,

We have all learned to cope with various situations in our long lives. Some are confusing and others are a part of life for everyone. The idea of hot rods was started at an early age, supported with parents that liked when their two young boys have something in common. As individuals, we were pursuing in our own ways, different ideas for the same topic of old cars, comic books and magazines. Photos were part of our lives as our dad broke out his huge Graflex Press Camera and took photos of parties, family events and travel photos.

We have appreciated all of those times when our dad had us pose, as his huge camera was not the everyday point and shoot at any time, model. It took a while to set up the camera and get it ready to take just one photo, let alone a series of photos. The lucky thing was he used a film pack and each photo could be taken and a film blocking paper was pulled out to advance to the next exposed negative.

So, with all of those memories in mind, it was a shock to remember those times and not have both our parents around. Grand kids were a great way to enjoy the next generation. At least our parents were able to get to enjoy them.

Our early hot rod adventures was a playground of learning and trying to figure out what was what. The thoughts and planning led to future plans without us even thinking back. It was engrained early on and we just followed our ideas and layouts for the problem at hand.

My wife and I have been involved in the beach lifestyle for the last 56 year of being together. Some ideas get molded into others that played right into our family lifestyle. Low key, simple way to live without bothering too many people around us at the time. It applied to hot rods for enjoyment and these days, it makes us lean into the idea that another hot rod project would give us something different for our daily drives to the beach or up/down the coast.

Even our granddaughter, as busy as she is being a teenager thinking about applying to colleges, takes the time to make sure we are all right. She enjoys our current drives with her/us in the station wagon. Just last week, enjoyed being with her for the weekend and that included driving around with her. (just like the early years she stayed with us from birth to 7 years)

A cool hot rod would make things interesting to show her the past for the present. Then again, another small station wagon with 400 hp +AWD would also do the same thing… many decisions for us old folks, including that danged pandemic... YRMV

First time I’ve seen this. Well done! Written 17 years ago, could have been 100 years ago or even yesterday. I see some of myself and my family in those words or should I say I want to see it. My memories can be very selective. We are all products of our experiences and I hope I’ve done my parents well, I miss them both.
