To level with ya, I'd put them on ebay. You can list the doors and probably get good $$$ for them alone. The skill level that it takes to build a car out of what you have is very high and very expensive. The 32 cost more to build than any other car on the planet. However, I do admire your motivation and desire to "get in the game". Another thing to think about, when your in the military, you won't have the time or place or money to work on anything. I say this from my own experiences in the military. Best thing to do is, sell your investments and put the money in the bank. Continue to add to your account thru out your time in service. When you get out, you'll have a skill and will be able to get a good paying job if you choose the right MOS (not machine gunner:eek: , not too much demand for them in civilian life), and some money to buy a decent roller with. If you leave this stuff laying around it won't be in the same shape, or place, as when you left. Turn and earn! Good luck!

  2. LET ME LEVEL WITH ALL OF YOU. I AM NOT SELLING THE 32.....EVER!!!!

I trust you will make a great car.... great buy, way to go.

  4. i agree with Aman. You'll see. You could have bought way more car for that money. I almost thought this was a joke someone was playing when I opened this thread. You bought it for $1400, you have no idea where to start, and you don't have any money? No way man. What are you going to do, hang it on the wall in your room? I say get rid of it. Find something you can drive AND work on at the same time. K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid.

BUT. it is your choice. you can do what you want. just giving my two cents.

Good Luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

Congrats man, i was stoked when i bought mine too, i was 20 when i got mine, mine was $1000.

I dont see why people are telling you to sell it, they say it will cost you a bundle to put together, well thats a bunch of b.s., i have between 6500 and 7500 into my coupe and im happy with it just fine, you sell it youll never get one again, and its not that hard to put a body back together, it only goes one way!

good luck and heres a few pics, i have a ton more so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

it is drivable, its further along than in the pics, its got a nailhead with 6x2's on it.

  7. Here's an idea..... keep your two cents in your pocket man.

  8. Can't replace it for the price. In that shape, how much space is it gonna take up? You could hang it in the rafters of a garage, save your bucks and round up a frame somewhere. The rest shouldn't be too outrageous, especially if you run fenderless. Gather up the pieces as you can afford them and stash it all away and learn fabricating skills and you should be fine.

A guy had one here at a show they got out of the barn where it had been since 1961 - coupe body with minor rot, grille, fenders, hood - no floor - and got $12,000 for it - before noon no less. Just to give an idea what they cost when a decent one turns up.

I can't believe people are telling you to sell it.

Here's what I would do if I were you.

    I'd build it.

Get a nice frame. A '32 frame and start from there. Learn on the '32. That way you'll have it on the road faster.

If you mess something up, SO WHAT??? Its only metal.

How much more messed up can it get from those pics you posted. It looks like a dozer ran over that thing.

ANYTHING you do to it will be an improvement.

Its a car, its made of metal, and its not like its brain surgery.

    Learn on the '32. Build the '32. Keep the '32. ;) :D

good find. thought I was the only one who managed to grab a deuce while I was in my teens. I've had mine for 12 years (got her when I was 14) body and frame for $500. keep saving your doe and try to talk to some old timers. Lots of them will be willing to help out with finding old parts. Mine still isn't done, as I got sidetracked for 8 years while racing but I wouldn't dream of selling it.

  16. Haha. That's a good one. No hard feelings man. I guess I don't have all the facts. I really do want to see the progress on this. Good luck. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Oh, and I'm in the Navy, too. I ship out in January. Maybe I'll see you out there someday.

Another vote for keeping it. I got my '32 5w more than 30 years ago and I thought I would never live down the fact I paid $3,000 for it. It's full fendered, stock height (no chop yet) and it's got the origional fenders, frame, hood, gas tank, windshield, garnish mouldings, etc., all in unrusted origional shape and it came with a new 283 270 hp Chevy engine and BW 4spd. I've been tempted to sell it over the years but it was usually because of some like you have encountered here telling you how they would do things not how I felt about it. I've had dozens of cars since I got this one and it remains the only one I will not part with. If I ever get it done, GREAT, if I don't who's business is it but mine. In the meantime it's there along with a growing pile of really neat parts that I could not possibly have gathered when I first got the car.
If you've got Jim Sibley helping you, your on the right road, don't take a detour.

    Forget selling it!!
It's your's now, and no matter how much work it'll take to bring back to life it'll stay that way. There's a LOT of guy's out there who would do anything for a tin 32 5 window...At 17 you have already won that battle.
As your progress on the car begin's, and continues, so will your knowledge.
No matter how much you know now, you will gain soooo much from this project, and when it's all said and done not only will there be a ton of pride in this car, but you'll be able to tackle just about anything having this one under your belt.

I bought the 32 5 window in my avitar about 4 years ago, it's rough...no bottom, no subrails etc..i paid 3000 for it which i thought was dirt cheep..it's mine and will be til i'm dead..
Just like you, i aint gonna sell it ;D

Congrats man....i'm looking forward to seeing you build this car!!

Congrats on the score and have fun in the Navy, If it's not too late, which if you haven't hit boot camp yet it's not too late no matter what the recruiter tells you, transfer to the coast guard. Same **** just more fun. I did five years as a welder in the navy so I speak from experience.

I paid $1000 for this body in '82 ( I was a 23 year old university student at the time). The greybeards thought I was nuts. Years of collecting and many other projects in between have honed my skills and I've gathered or built the necessary tools. I'm now going to build my deuce. Stay with it Acey_Deucey, you get it.

Acey - very cool find. That one needs a little tlc to say the least. But you can do it - look at what ***us put to gether!! wow. It is great Jim S is there and helping you - he's built some awesome stuff and can help getting a roller together.

Find a good firewall - I was lucky to get a decent firewall and hood for a good deal here on the hamb. Just take your time which you have plenty of!

Here is what I started with - geez I can't believe I ever whined about short doors and bondo :D
