Mmmm, shiny gloss black! You can see the wet sanded fenders in the background waiting for their turn under the bonnet.
I figure it is easier to store them this way then to polish them and have them sitting around. I will polish the fronts first and install them, then the bed, the rears and finally the gate.

Much better. Ready to hang or at least close. You can almost see the Wimbledon white panel stripes that will adorn them.
    upload_2023-2-6_20-21-1.png
One thing I could use help with is what is this?
    upload_2023-2-6_20-22-25.png
I know it part of the fuzzies for the door channel but I only have one. Obviously, I am missing one like it for the other side (which ever one that is). My glass guy is cutting the glass and coming out a week from this Saturday to install them. I need two of these by then and some idea of how to assemble it. I found in my stash the long fuzzy pieces, the fuzzies that go on top of the door window opening (inner and outer/both sides) and a pair of U channels about 2" tall with more fuzzies inside that I have no idea about (same width as the glass). All the pieces are brand new, purchased by the PO.

Any of the brain trust got some ideas and more importantly some more of whatever this is? I suppose it is an internal runner for the glass on the hinge side? (50/50 guess there).

I received 2 nice door windows when I purchased the truck in the metal frames, the glass is nice but dark grey and I am going with green glass. I am dropping the windows off tomorrow downtown so they can pull the frames apart and cut/install new glass in the frames prior to coming out to my garage. I need to hunt down all the parts needed to install the windows in the doors as the truck goes to upholstery right after that. These are Juliano's power windows so I don't need to worry about regulators and such.

There was a new rear window rubber seal from Carpenters still in the bag that should work fine.

  2. The two approx. 2" deep U-channel fuzzies are the inside glass channel for the door hinge side.
You need TWO (one for each door) of the shallow U-channel fuzzies which are the inside glass channel for the door handle side of door (the one you posted a picture of).
If you look inside of your doors, you should find the remnants of the old U-channel fuzzies, that will of course have to be removed...if they no longer exists do a dry run with your new ones, and it should become clear to you.
A heads up, the door felts are a lame fitment with those clips they provide in the kits...good luck/patience required.
    Nice paint/buff on that door.

  3. One other thing the window frames were used on '42-'47 pickups, '40 and '41 had no frames around the glass.

You wouldn't have that missing piece would you? I suppose I should just order another pair but with supply and delivery issues lately...

I dropped off the side glass this morning and they suggested not using the frames so I think that is the correct route no that you pointed out that distinction between the years. Do you know why they switched to metal frames? I suppose it was glass breakage/ rigidity issues?

Does that mean that the "fuzzy" channels are not the same?

  6. No I don't have the piece you are missing.
My belief is the frames were for rigidity as you surmised.
Hopefully your glass guy has some universal fuzzie/felt material, that can be glued in rather than the poor design of clips that come with the kit, that everyone sells.
I've installed new glass in 5 of these trucks, and never re-installed the frames (I don't care for the look of them).
Knowing your level of quality, I don't think you'll be happy using the supplied clips in the kit, and having the un-finished edges of the "fuzzies" exposed.

I stole this from @Blues4U coverage of the GNRS (I didn't want to contaminate his thread) 41 Ford PU, what appears to be Chevy rear fenders and more to the point...lower side cowl vents in the cab?

  9. That piece that goes on latch side is only about a foot and a half long. They may have sent one piece to cut both out of.

  10. Nope, that piece had the mounting clip on it. You need two.

A quick post just to make sure y'all arent thinkin I'm 'laxin.

I had drilled holes for door jamb harnesses prior to paint but they would not hold the RCA cables I need to run my speaker controls. I found a larger pair but that meant taking the air file to painted doors and jambs, it all worked fine and I like the look better than the braided steel ones (even tho they were black braided).

    My door looks proud.
    upload_2023-2-14_14-53-58.png
These will get hose clamps inside and out to limit door travel in lieu of door checks. Chrome hinges are back on. Next step was pulling all the wiring form the under seat fuse panel to the kick panels, up and over the doors.

My upholstery date is the 28th, the headliner will cover all of this so I have to be wired prior to that. Moreover, my windows get installed Saturday and I need my PW's operational and doors hung by then.
    upload_2023-2-14_14-56-35.png
Hard to believe but that is not all of the wires that went over that door and down the A pillar. Great idea putting all of the electronics under the seat!
It will be cool when done but right now it is a pain, quite literally, in my back.

All of the ignition (to and from) is in there, HVAC, lighting, speaker wire, those RCA cables (to and from), power window wiring, power for that cowl vent, dash gauges, clock, courtesy lights, turn signals, horn, fog lights, not to mention the things I can not mention.

I hooked up the battery and threw the switch last night and got dome light and courtesy lights, that is a start. I like to have the fuse panel powered up so I can test circuits as I complete them, tonight I will try to get a few items working starting with the ignition switch so I can power the accessories side of the panel.

You would not want to pay someone by the hour for this job. I have over 20 hours in so far on the wiring and that is merely half way I figure. I may have to add a leaf on the left side to compensate for the weight of that harness.

I ran into the house for a refreshment at one point and had to snap a pic of my wife's feral's she saved a few years back. They take care of the mice, birds, rabbits, squirrels, voles, and the occasional girl scout.

They like sunning themselves on the master bedroom deck. My garage is too noisy for them but they like it when I come out and give them a snack.

There is not much progress to show when you're spending your days wiring. Upholstery is set for Monday so I am down to 4 days.

Today I got the AC working finally (other than the charging). Fan works, selector works, etc. I installed my speakers in the doors as they need to be there for the upholsterer to get the "vibe" and I am going to have him install some welting between the speakers and the doors to close a small gap as the speakers are flat and the door has a slight crown to it. I designed the seat upholstery and the speakers; he will help make the door cards and kick panels fit the motif. I am thinking the upper doors cards may need a 3/4" black surround so they don't appear wider than the speakers, if you know what I mean.

There is a toggle switch in the seat riser that turns on the Bluetooth amp, it also lights the LED in the driver's door when on. Using my iphone, I fired up some Kashmere and I am pleased to say the system rocks! And as an added benefit, the little sub under the seat should double as a vibrator to keep the wife happy.
    upload_2023-2-22_20-18-44.png
I also sanded and polished my glove box door. I like the way it turned out and after installing the door I added the clock that I had Classic Instruments restore to match my gauge panel. I found the clock on our classifieds, 40 Mercury? I dunno fer sure but I know it looks cool! It is now electric and illuminated.
    upload_2023-2-22_20-23-44.png
I installed magnetic spring latches in each top corner to open and close the door. Rare earth magnets on the door corners make it very secure and I like the lack of handle.
    upload_2023-2-22_20-26-10.png
The only wiring left to be addressed inside is the headlight/taillight harness and the engine sending units/gauges. I am doing that in cloth covered wiring like I did in my roadster. I am waiting for RI Wire to deliver, no big hurry as I have fenders to polish and hang anyway. That doesn't need completion to get the upholstery done.

I have all my senders all installed, tomorrow I will add some go juice to the tank, some coolant in the radiator and crank her up for the first time in a couple of years. I look forward to that.

He didn't tell me, and I didn't ask. I'm going to fetch my trailer over the weekend and load her up, drop her off and wait for a call. I didn't even ask him how much it was going to cost!

    Waiting for your garage sale

My wife worries about that as well. She constantly throws in barbs like "I'm glad this is your last one", or "Won't it be nice to have your Silverado back in the garage once this one's finished?". Women! If she didn't have curves I wouldn't listen.

Here is one that really pisses me off. a couple years back, during mockup, I spent over $2,000 on an a Unisteer, electra steer column (I know, not HAMB friendly) for my wife mainly who lacks a lot of upper body strength. Well, I wired the damn thing to find it doesn't F'n work. In the meantime, the company that made the piece of crap has discontinued selling it, I can't find any help and the brain seems to be un-obtainable.

It won't deter my appt Monday, but I will likely be tearing this while thig out and installing a new column which has me in a very poor mood. Summitt still sells it so maybe they have a source for a new brain box. Rats!

Perfect customer: AKA, dumb ass with cash in his pocket.
We have a striper locally that is reknown nationwide. One does not tell him what you want or ask him how much it will cost. Mitch just does what the thinks is cool and charges you accordingly. I doubt Michelangelo was working off an estimate for time and materials at El Cappella Sistina, "I expect cool and I am willing to pay for it". -Pope Bandito Guillermo, anno 2023

  22. Like the great J. P. Morgan once said,,,,, ( if you have to ask the cost,,,,you can’t afford it ) .

    Lol,,,,,,I always ask how much,,,,,I guess I really can’t afford anything,,,,lol .

    And Morgan had enough money not to care about the answer! I care, I just know;
    1. I need interior
    2. I can't sew (I actually made an apron in HomeEc in HS...Second thought, forget I said that)
    3. My wife didn't ask the guy what it was going to cost either! So I figure I got a "get out of jail free" card.

Feel free to post up a pic. I'd love to see your starting point.
Yeah, but she's doesn't like the cold.
