I found those wires last night. Accel copper core 7mm wires. "High Performance 7mm Silicone". As I said before, they were stuffed into the top of a Mallory 2pc cap. The other Mallory has the (seem to be) beloved "Packard 440" wires with Rajah ends. Electronic interference can be blocked fairly simple. Wrap the wires in a stainless band with a provision for a screw to clamp the band together, add a small braided ground strap to the screw and screw the other end to a valve cover or somewhere else on the motor. Whether it's enough to protect an MSD box, I don't know but it works for the radio.
well like i said ive used the yellow wires. had to. it was the thing to use,but i went one step farther. i also used accels braided armour sheild wires. looked pretty cool. and if you had a good ground on them they work good too.been lookin for a good set to use on my ot nova but havent found any yet! lol no really im gonna use them.
+1, still got 'em on my '51 flatty. If people ask, I'll just tell them their the rare and highly saught after Moon Racing wires. Edit: I didn't know this, but Mooneyes does sell the yellow plug wires, they also come in black, for those that hate the yellow.
Nope, I hate them as well. They were very popular when I was a kid and first started getting into cars in the mid eighties. Seemed like one of the things a young kid would add to his car if he could not afford real speed parts.
I have been kind of avoiding this mess, but I'll step in the steamer now. I have run solid core wires with an MSD before as well, no problems, but I THINK its because I dont mount the MSD in the engine compartment, I mount it on the inside of the firewall. I have also run the same deal with a two-step(!!) and it worked ok. Your mileage may vary...
Hey bud I know this has nothing to do with yellow wires but the wifr picked up a '70s stero with e built in turn table and 8 track at a yard sale a few years back. I'll bet it still works, you are more then welcome to it for your garage.
thanks!! thats what I was needing to know, I mounted the msd box in brackets that fit it upside down under the dash, then built in cooling channels and used a computer fan setup to cool it down, cool air is drawn in and forced into the channels and across the bottom of the box
My car had them on it when I bought it. They kind of match the olds color (yellow and green) but they do get way to dirty. I ordered a set of cloth ones from thehotrodcompany.com, got the green with yellow tracers. Looks like it will match the valve covers real nice, we'll see. Might go with some black ones with green tracers next.
