By the grace of God I managed to find four cans of Dupli color DE 1651 Cast Coat Iron. Have to give Brian Griggs at CAR Quest a shout out . He was the only one around that actually had /keeps it in stock. Is one of my favorite colors.

Glued the rest of the tack strip in. It was way too close to the windshield for me to risk a big staple or pop rivet. I used the 3M black adhesive that has been around for ever. And as usual it didn’t disappoint.I would really like to see the staple gun that put those in through the metal.
Was good to get in the shop with son and law /grandson. Did have to take the keys out. Lol
Hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving. Godspeed and live and build all you can while you can.

Wind lace in the tracks. I cheated and stapled the cord in so it can’t come out. Also taped up my small hammer and closed the channel on them. Wasn’t as easy I thought it would be. Might get installed before the weekend is up. going to work on the Willys today. Check barrel valve etc. something is still off. 08E099C6-049A-4431-91E4-C7FFB87C75F7.jpeg 6A6C59C2-835E-419B-AD4D-BEFD7BA3D3F3.jpeg 8D6CA9CE-6B84-4500-B89F-A5D2CEAECA5B.jpeg C9918255-CB9F-4F96-BCD8-8FF2E1FA73C8.jpeg

    And it begins.
Each bow marked for exact center. Matched to the head liner and measured the centerline of the car roof. Also cut extra clearance on the end of the bows so the sides could pull down and be stapled to the tack strip.
The rear section turned out pretty good and I haven’t even hit it with the heat gun yet. I’ll adjust and re staple as needed. Fixing to go out and finish the front section. I hope. Lol

Looking real good. When you do the front, don't forget to put the sun visor screws in the holes before you pull the headliner tight. That way you'll see where the heads of the screws are trying to poke out of the headliner once it's tight, and you can cut them in accordingly. Trying to accurately guess where the holes are to mount the visors afterwards can be really difficult.

    I just came in.
Sorry about the pics. Was in a hurry.
Squawblow excellent idea. I am sctually not going to put the visors back in. I hate them. Have never put a set back in anything I build. They just look ugly to me.
But still an idea I used on the dome light tabs and the garnish molding around the front windshield. I actually drilled the holes in the tack strip so the qrter windows moldings line up with out a fight also.
Gonna cheat and run a very simple 3/4 inch band of painted aluminum accross the back of the edge where the windshield rubber and the card board meet and over lap. It’s is in the tabs and it won’t come out ,but it isn’t laying down as I think it should do. I am going to guarantee that does. I’ll either paint it black to hide in with the rubber edge or the grey that the molding else were is. I’ll play with it. I’ll use the tiny rivits or screws with upholstery washer. If I need them. Either way that edge is going to be flush or else.
Still need to tuck in over the doors. Have to recover sail /side boards also.
Gonna let it sit the night and part of the day. Let it stretch if it will if not I’ll carefully use the heat gun.
no picks. I’ll finish it up tomorrow and I’ll have more.I do like this color and it looks far better than I perceived.

Everything is in except the qrter window molding and some soap and water. Apparently I had some dirt on my hands / or got some dust/dirt in various places. Still have the wrinkle from the center bow (one that is clipped across the top). Not as bad as it was and I haven’t used the heat gun but I am nit taking it down a third time.
I purchased some upholstery screws and counter sunk washers. (Tiny). Gonna figure out if I need them if I put that strip on the back window.

Finished up the headliner. Put all the garnish /trim on so that it will stretch seat or what ever. There are two places I will try the hair dryer/and filler paddle trick tomorrow. That’s what I did on the back window area. Took about and hour and a half but it did work. Not perfect but acceptable. I really would like to get those other two but I am not willing to mess up what I have to try taking it back down and cut the slots again.
inwill out door panels /qrter panels and kick panels in after I seal and put the rapture on the floor. Will be tinted to match the dash. I will put dome light in tomorrow also. Got a broken wire. ( I Probobly did it when I took it out. ) Gotta solder in new bulb nodes and springs under the wire seats.

Ok tried an idea. And it worked. No it isn’t factory or even made by GM but it did the 2 things I wanted.
    Laid down flat
    Secured the edge.
I am going to let it take set for a day and then remove and paint to match dash /garnish molding. EC463F8F-06C6-499B-BDA4-C5D65410911D.jpeg

Thank you. It would be farther along but I am still fighting with the injection on my Willy’s and I am also building a prefect and Opel kadet.
This injection unit is kicking my ass right now. I have had several of the older Hilborns with no issues. This one is teaching me a little patients.
I go back and forth so I don’t get frustrated and take a hammer to things. Lol
This car will never be more than what it is. A daily driver. I simply wanted the inside decent and not spend a fortune.
Like my statements on aluminum interior and certified cage /chassis work- before you bad mouth some ones price -do it CORRECTLY one time and you have a better understanding.
Again thank you. Build all you can while you can.

Is that an aluminum transition strip for VCT tile flooring? I've used that stuff for all kinds of shit, it's nice looking and forms corners easy. Never would have thought to use it there but it makes sense, the factory folded cardboard retainer that stuffs behind the rear window gasket doesn't seem to work well unless you have a new rear window gasket.

Ok headliner is in for good. Etch/primed the trim and painted. Cold here today so hair dryer helped the process. Not perfect but for the first one I’ve ever done I would be lying if I said I wasn’t pleased. 60CB158E-11F7-4EC0-8ED3-C370F8E67B09.jpeg 2F9617CF-E4BA-4A5E-A7E8-65F04427D742.jpeg 8B2F53A8-B37D-4195-837F-E0623FD62ACC.jpeg 2F9617CF-E4BA-4A5E-A7E8-65F04427D742.jpeg 60CB158E-11F7-4EC0-8ED3-C370F8E67B09.jpeg

The corners tightened up nice, that's the hardest part to get right. I'd say you did very well.

Pulled seats to prep for rapture liner. Scotch brite pads and prep Sol.
If and I do mean IF I can get it warm enough I’ll attempt the back seat delete panel and floor.
I also welded up all the holes except where the seats mount. Cleaned up the hole for the shifter.
Washed the boot up. Check that out. The shifter boot from say 69-71. Washed up and can’t find a single flaw.

With your interior color choice, watch american graffiti and look in the back seat of bob falfas 55.... i realize most movie cars are poorly made but the back seat treatment in that car was always super cool to me! Would look neat in your car, roll bar and all

Found a good use for old license plates. Makes a pretty neat shifter boot ring.

75359C48-CD8A-4106-8CC9-457413B34A17.jpeg Floor coated /sealed. I managed to heat inside of car and shop to 60 today and keep it there.
I used rapture /liner and tinted it same color as dash. Let’s hope it looks that good the AM. Lol
Gonna leave the small heater on it it all night. And maybe even past that. We are looking for 7-9 degrees Thursday night /Friday. Gonna try to help it a little bit.so it cures.
got some left May actually try it on the bottom of the doors. B5B982C3-ADEA-4E52-A8A7-9137388867E2.jpeg A3A7A920-61B8-4BF7-80E9-8DB6C7B76AE5.jpeg I have no intention of running carpet or even a rubber floor mat.

Drove through a snow /ice storm on I 22. Between New Albany Ms - Memphis around Holly Springs MS. Took several hours to pick these up.
I think they will clean up. If not I’ll paint to match the skinnies I already have.
I’ll remind you it was warmer in Alaska than Houston MS this past Thursday. Lol. Today was a heat wave. High of 35. Lol
Cool guy in Bartlett Tn. Gave them to me.
Got home safe. God smiled on me once again.

Driving on snow and ice is no joke, up here in Wisconsin we get it every year and a lot of people wreck, gotta be careful.

Worth it though, those chrome steel wheels are cool. I would clean them up as best as you can and run them even if the chrome isn't great, they'll still look right at home if they've got some pits and age on the plating. They're perfect for the car.

Got new turn signal switch installed. Nothing photo worthy but they work like new. So all is good.
