Worked on the rear wheels a little bit. Kinda masked the rust in the center. The other polished out for the most part.
Gotta decide whether to stay white on outer or other color. Guess I could just paint and pic until I like the look 912C19EA-6C69-4710-B34D-9B71CA6909C8.jpeg 73ED7815-EC54-44E7-9533-99D99B6A53BD.jpeg [ATTA

I like it, I think it's perfect with the white paint. I think if you paint the outers silver, it'll just look like off-the-shelf silver painted steel wheels. Plus this matches the car well.

If you get them mounted up and you hate it, it'll be easy enough to repaint the outers, even with tires on them. But I'd try them just like this, I think it'll work.

Got tired of looking for the magic screw driver to open the truck.
    Fixed that problem. 3F3DDE61-A4B1-47C4-A6F9-A1E1EFCBB774.jpeg 937F3B64-EC51-47D3-BB6D-A86CBE2E37D9.jpeg 67EA84A3-686C-48B3-B0B5-A8482259C218.jpeg 92EB53E4-8F1F-4671-B256-5A4C35990A53.jpeg 568B1BB5-EAE8-41B8-A4B3-2AC062185636.jpeg 29997DDE-7E27-41F5-8A48-6DFABFE63A21.jpeg

Soaked the rear spring bolts and shackle bolt in deep Creep. Broken loose and let ‘em soak some more. Gonna pull as an entire unit. Got to replace one leaf in the pass spring. And then reassemble. Figure I’ll do the brakes and scrape rearend for paint and do all that before it goes back in. Got new lines /wheel cylinders and /shoes also.
This is a P case posi/with a 3:55. Should be a decent street here with the M20. Finally getting caught up some. Hoping to get more done. IMG_0575.jpeg IMG_0574.jpeg

Im working on 56 wagon rear suspension too. Putting rear shackle mounts back on. Looks like I can use the aftermarket shackles. From your picture.

The home made offset drop shackles are interesting, not sure if I'd want to use them though. I had to cut my leaf springs into two pieces on the passenger side of my '57 to get the forward mount bolt out, luckily the whole pack was trash anyway so no big deal but hopefully yours give up the ghost easier than mine did.

Mine all broke loose easy enough. I tapped on the end each with a small hammer and they moved in and out easy. I soaked them again just to make sure. There is also a cross plate welded midway so to speak that guarantees it doesn’t wobble like so many I’ve seen but they used some type of bushing in the bottom rear spring that was either super soft or poor quality.

I can’t tell if that’s a P257or an F257. I say F. But one thing for certain it is a posi. So I guess I am still digging here.

    Ok. Eyes wide shut.
That casting number says that’s a standard case. How hard is it to put a posi 3:55 in a standard case. Have a friend that did and had to grind quite a bit. Wow live and learn

    No hurry. Just two questions.
    1. How many different posi carriers are there for the 57-64 Chevy rear.
    2. What was the lowest as in highest number that was offered from the factory in this rearend ?
    Thanks

The 1964 parts book lists two carriers, one for 4.11 and higher, and the other for lower number ratios.

The parts book lists 4.88, 5.13, and 5.38 ratio gear sets, in two different thickness, to work with either the 3.70/lower or 4.11/higher carriers. I don't know that these ratios were offered as Regular Production Options, you might want to look at the GM Heritage site for the details about different models. For example. the 1962 Corvette Vehicle Information Kit, shows 3.08 to 4.56 ratios available.

Here's a page that shows what was available from the factory in 1964 full size cars, pretty much the same thing.

Wow. Didn’t know those ratios were available from GM. Interesting indeed.

Leaf on the passenger side replaced and reassembled. Filled with oil and a touch of posi additive for the unit.
Will put wheel cylinders and brake shoes on before it goes back in.
Am going to steal the bolts/bushings out of the danchuck kit and use my shackles. Weld in a H bar like I always do.

Spring bushings about finished as are shackles. Pionion seal didn’t leak last night. Reset pinion in 25 in/lbs. feels perfect. If that’s a Pittsburgh torque wrench you might test it before you actually use it, I tried the half inch drive one to compare to my old snap-on and when set to the same torque, the Pittsburgh never clicked at the torque spec. It just kept tightening so I eventually stopped using it, I checked how tight the bolt was and it went to about 50lbs over what the Pittsburgh wrench was set at. Overall I’ve had pretty decent luck with most HF tools but the torque wrench left me a bit disappointed. I just mention this because I’d hate to see something get messed up due to a faulty torque wrench.

I checked it against nicks beam version ( think really old snap on. ( like wood knob handle ) lol. Pretty close.
As of this morning all back under the car and now just gotta get everything else back under.
Mower once again has my name on it at the big shop. I promise if I ever get rich I am gonna pour the whole yard and pasture concrete and paint it green. That will stop this crap. Lol IMG_0689.jpeg

Ok. Got lucky this morning. It’s actually been an exceptional day.
Wes changed rear shock mount to frame style etc and it uses a 58-72 impala style shock and then to add to the good local had the stock set for the front also. Monroe no less. 33$ each. IMG_0756.jpeg
