Of course not....it's "Old Ford Red" :D

  4. It was my understanding that Diamond "B" blocks had hardened seats on the exhaust valves. I was looking at one last week, no valve seats and the first cam bore was bushed, along with the oil pump bore. Is this an off-shore block? I have heard rumors of Russian?

It is my understanding that the Russian blocks were like the Gernan blocks. They had full pressure and insert bearings. Are there three numbers cast on the block above the fuel pump boss?

  6. I don't recall any numbers between the FP boss and the galley. It definately was a babbit motor. Didn't the Russian and German blocks have much sharper edges around the water jackets?

  7. I've been playing hill climber recently - Hill climbing in a hotrod - and I'll certainly be giving it go with the four banger when I get the tourer finished.

    Nice looking Coupe.

Are you running a fuel pump? Those carbs don't like more the 3 lbs psi fuel pressure.

Yeah, that BIG electric one with the BIG angle bracket. I picked that one cause it was rated at less psi. Turned the reg up to 5.5max & the gas just trickles in when working the throttle by hand looking down the carb.

It's not about trickle but more about the constant flow you can't see because the pump's pressure overides the float and turning the idle jet into a crude and uncontrolled fuel injector ( big leak)

Its when I floor it, that there is no squirting from the upper squirters. I had the regulator at 2.5 & 3 & it was starving for gas, cuting off, Thats why I cranked it all the way up to 5.5max & it stays running. Maybe the regualtor is bad???

  16. Just got my 94 figured out. Newly rebuilt by a pro and had a bad accelerator pump. Had overflow issues and would not squirt. Changed the accelerator pump and set the float at 1 8/32". Lowered psi to 1.5. Solved all the problems.

    Nice coupe BTW!

    Good advice

It is possable to screw things up so bad that it seems to mask the problem and act better

Thanks now I got to figure out if it has a bad accelerator pump. DId the pro rebuild it with a bad one or did he find that problem & fix it?

  20. I used a pro because I didn't want to learn a 94 inside and out.
When I mentioned my issues he told me of a bad batch of AP's and to ship it back.
I decided to by a kit at Napa for $32 and go into the belly of the beast.
Then with some phone help from the guy and some trial and error it was figured out in 2 hours.
Best part, I now know the beast and the fear is gone. :- )

I guess what we are trying to say is understand what you are doing and why, it can be very costly to build a high performance A or B even a high compression head costs. Unless you are keen in the long run if you just want hp buy a standard small block Chev but if you want the experience and fun of building your own motor and learning what makes them perform go for it. The small block will have easier to get power at far less a price but a well built banger will teach you heaps before it blows up and lets you know what I have just told you for free!!! Why do we do it ,its a challenge and its fun.:D

I am spending many thousands on a five main DOHC Banger. It the end it may be broken in seconds. But I know that when I started. You should know that the Stock A/B is really OK But Babbit won't take much, if any, abuse

Here in Europe if your an American they all think your a Ford expert.... I am not..... I have a very smart and careful guy call me and complain the after all this money and work his B motor overheated and had no HP. People just don't understand it just an old motor and never really designed to take much stress. Fun to play with and hard to pay for.

Well I can tell YA, Bluto is correct. They are not much stock and with a lot of work and Money you can make them work somewhat for a while. Open your ears to mr. Bluto, he knows...TV

  25. Trust me, I appreciate the wealth of knowledge here. When I started all my endeavors with my Ford, I never thought I'd get this far with my banger motor.

The Banger Brain Trust which resides here is priceless!

I drove my '32 Model PB Plymouth as my only car for three years right after I bought it. That included a trip from Newport, RI to Norman, OK, by way of Milwaukee. I just kept the oil replenished and cleaned the plugs and points whenever it started to miss. It can be done, but I never pushed the car beyond 55 MPH. The only problem I had was with vapor locking in the hot Oklahoma summers. BTW, I love this banger thread...

The PB Plymouth was a far better motor than the Ford B

  30. Please explain your statement. Why was it better?
