On my old C10’s the black neoprene worked well with a dash of Gasgacinch. Not working this time.
All was cleaned thoroughly with brake clean.

First was a no name torqued to 13 ft lbs, leaked.

Second, Tried the neoprene with some rtv, which I know isn’t recommend but I wanted to give it a shot, leaked. Torqued as well which ended up squeezing the gasket out.

Third: This one in the pics is one of those cork/neoprene types from summit. No sealant was used and I used a smaller ratchet, 1/4 inch to prevent over tightening. No torque, leaks.

The pan is stock and the bolt holes were checked for flattness each time. Though they were already flat, I gave a little tap for insurance.

As you can see it’s leaking pretty good. It had about 3.5 quarts in it as I type.

Im thinking just pulling it again and using permatex “the right stuff” and just ditching the gasket all together. I know the “right stuff” works. Downside, it can be a bitc$ for future removal, razor blade will be a must.

I have one of those “chrome witha drain plug” pans from summit. Im thinking I may use that. But buying more ATF each time is costly.

    Any advice?

Yes its been sitting for a couple weeks which can cause some seeping but. Just seeing if anyone can offer anything?

I do know these things can leak from 9,000 different places but Im fairly certain its the pan. Or the pan being the biggest culprit. I looked all around above the pan and I noticed nothing.

That transmission has enough dirt on it that it must be time for a complete reseal, if not an overhaul.

My guess is that you're wasting your time, messing with different ways to seal the pan. The tried and true method of using a gasket with no sealer, and everything clean and flat and bolts torqued to spec, will work...if every thing is like I mentioned. But there are many other places it can leak, and with the trans that dirty, you can't see those other leaks.

So...what to do? Live with it seeping, until you can afford the time/money to take it out and fix it right. Or keep trying stuff that won't fix it.

    Isn’t that a Beatle’s song?

“I look at the engine and I notice it's turning
    While my transmission gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
    Still my transmission gently weeps”

Why are you always right? Hahaha.

Yeah, the tranny has seen better days. I was looking for bandaids to stop the weep until I can afford to pull it and have it re-done. I guess, topping it off until I get the $ is your recommendation?

Are you in Arizona? Can you recommend a tranny rebuild shop in the Easy Valley, Gilbert area?

Just a thought,,, scrape some crud off .
You might find the actual leak and not just where it’s collected before dripping off.

If you want to spend some time cleaning the crud off and looking for other leaks, that would probably be more productive than R&Ring the pan five more times.

  8. Popular leak areas:
Shift seal, speedometer, dip stick tube, kick down cable, governor cup, modulator

Kick down cable is a known place for a th350 to leak and can run around and make it appear to be a pan gasket leak. A good pressure washing would be first on my list . Or some engine cleaner and a trip to your local car wash if you don't have a pressure washer.

  11. That’s crud could be sealing some of them up!

I had a Chevy with a leaky 350/350. It was annoying. So I sold it and then started driving a Ford with a flathead. Now I know what real leaks are.
