History yesteryears fillin stations

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by breeder, Oct 28, 2006.

  1. Upton Upon Severn Keith? Right off the end of the bridge? I used to live in Baughton, over the bridge towards Pershore. That place always had something "interesting" around the back and lots of ex Army and RAF stuff out the front.
    Amazing that it,s still there.

Unfortunately, this old filling station in Santa Fe just went out of business. The owner is a really cool guy that runs a nostalgic nitro car. It was a full service station where every customer got air, fluids checked, windows washed, and was greeted with a smile. It will be missed

  13. Beautiful spring day for a drive in the Iowa countryside.

Youngville Cafe on Lincoln Highway (US 30) west of Cedar Rapids. Youngville was a roadhouse "back in the day", now a seasonal cafe.

This one isn't really a gas station - just the coolest shop I know.

this is for sale in the next town over. I wanted to buy it for my shop. Wife said the monthly expenses would get me. she's right (don't tell her though:eek:). For $30K it's not bad. needs a new roof though. the locals said the gas pump building was used as the Dairy Queen in the 60's.

Recently restored 1959 Texaco station in La Grand, Oregon. The place looks as sharp as the day it opened 50 years ago. Full service garage opening soon.

  23. Check out the photos of Walker Evans, D. Lang, etc. and others working for the FSA (Farm Security Admininstration) during the 1930's - 1940's. Many photos of rural/small town south and SW locations. Stores, main street, autos, signs, people, etc. Well worth the search!!

Around here, that would cost you about $500K. And if the price didnt kill you, the taxes & the building department would !!!

These pictures were taken in NE South Dakota back in the 1990's. I'd like to think it still looks the same.
