yet another HA/GR tech question-roll bar

Discussion in 'HA/GR' started by moparsled, Aug 10, 2008.

  1. lots of compe***ion cars of all types "back in the day" had bolted on roll bar hoops that had been chromed. Any chance of that getting on a track nowadays?

Isn't there a new powder coating that looks alot like chrome? Might be close enough and legal.

......... and they're not fond of chrome as it makes it difficult to check thickness.

  6. I kinda figured that would be the answer- but, I gotta ask.

there are a bunch of ways to achieve the look that would be within today's tech- polishing the tube like you would to prepare for plating, and then just keeping after it, or waxing it, would work too.

It occurs to me that what I often do with br*** and copper might work as well, polish the pee out of it and just use a clear coat.

But chrome DO make it go faster ........

The surface of chromium is smoother than the surface of regular mill steel.
Thus it has less laminar surface drag.
Thus it slips through the air with less horsepower requirement.
The percentage in drag reduction is easily enough to offset the extra weight as an e.t. reduction factor.
Thus you go quicker, and faster.

    :D

'Course, I defy you to actually measure it ........... :p

Then again, less weight will help you get from point "A" to point "B" quicker.

I have a holesaw and I'm not afraid to use it.:D
