So... I'm gathering parts for a new project and came across a good deal on a cool old speedo. Actually it was too good of a deal to pass up. And, @VANDENPLAS ... sorry, dude. It's got an "AC" logo on it so... not a Dodge. Anyway. What the hell did I just buy? Any ideas on fitment?
DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!!! Tell him what he won, Don Pardo. Thanks, @Moriarity !!! EDIT: Found a pic of one. Cool beans!
Well that was almost too easy! https://sites.google.com/site/identifyinginstrumentpanels/home/clusters-1950s Buick 1954-55 Super, Roadmaster Speedometer 12V Never seen this site before. Also identifies gauges, clocks, speaker grilles, I/P trim plates, clock and radio delete plates and horn buttons & rings. https://sites.google.com/site/identifyinginstrumentpanels/ Might be a handy site to bookmark in your browser. (Hat's off to Moriarity . . . )
OOOOH!!! I smell a new bookmark on my homepage. Oh great. Just great! Now I need to find a set of these.
Never mind the gauges, how about the controls in the middle? Engineer, give me more power! Captain, I can't. She'll blow!
"Captains personal log, stardate 2131.6 . Well...she blew, alright. And a few other things. Long story short, Bones just told me I have space gonorrhea, and burrowing moon crabs."
I believe this is a ribbon type speedo as well, so there's no needle sweep, there's a drum inside that spins and displays a continuous red line up to the speed you're doing.
I haven't actually gotten it yet. It's shipped, I'll have it probably the first of the week. I'll let you know.
As I was scrolling down, I was going to guess mid-50s, but we had a winner before I got there. Back when I was hatched, I guess I was like a baby duck and I got 'imprinted' by round gauges. Maybe my momma had a fighter pilot in the wood pile, 'cause round gauges are all I'll tolerate now. I like that one, though...... I wouldn't kick it out of bed. But, I don't know if I would have bought it............... If I was on American Bandstand, I would of told Dick Clark, " I give it an 8 because I like the words".
I always liked the way the red line scrolled as the speedo turned. Seemed like one could fit nicely in a58 Chev dash.
Picked up this schnazzy gauge panel to go along with it. I think it will play nice and it kinda actually stays true to the style of the Buick dash. I dunno. I'm still gathering parts.
