My 1909? Holley (List-2848S) has a small broken arm on the choke mechanism inside the carb throat that's causing idle problems. It's a good working carb but I'm not sure if I can find the part. I also have a couple Carter YF carbs in my parts stash that I think are from early-mid 1970's 300? cu in Ford 6 motors. One is a 7051SA the other is a 4786S. I'd have to modify some stuff to make either one work but they will bolt to my manifold. Would one of these be a better choice than the Holley anyways?
Maybe with a few tries as it has a critical angle that I don't know what it's supposed to be. It's a tiny pressed on (rivit style) arm and broken at the cross shaft. I need the cross shaft and arm. I brazed it back together but it doesn't work correct.
Are you putting it on a 215/223? I have a '60 F100 with a Carter YF from an early 70's 300. I have never seen a Ford six points ignition that had the mech. advance, all seem to be vac. advance only. I could be mistaken. That being said; while my truck runs great the best gas mileage I've gotten has been around 14. I wonder if the proper Holley carb could better that. While the YF bolts on, the hole in the manifold is smaller, perhaps if I "port matched" it the milage would improve. I hope this helps. 60 F100, 223, T-98 trans, 350 rear gears. Patriot headers, 1 3/4 dual exhaust.
I replaced a Holly with a YF on an AMC 6 with no problems, if you want to re-jet, the jets are the same as those used on the Edelbrock.
That would be greatly appreciated. I have a few too but none of them are the same. Easy to spot this carb, notice the little bellcrank inside of the choke arm on the picture above. It also has the big choke plate on top instead of the small one part way down in the throat.
