I remember an issue of old shool rods years ago that had a car with a fork or s**** for a gas pedal. Sooo Kustom.

Idiots will slowly weed themselves out. I hope.

Note the set screws holding the black iron pipe to the stock parts, but nothing keeping the threads from turning itself apart!!! "Lefty loosey, righty tighty!!!"

So it OK to run the car without the sheetmetal cover for the flywheel. Looks like the radio fuse is intact except for the gl***. and everybody knows that you need to use a 6 point box end wrench, not an open end, those things can slip....

Looks like there is enough rust on the pipe fitting to keep the threads from slipping.

From the Model A (avatar) I recently bought. I drove it twice before parking it from fright. It has been stripped to the frame and we have started over.

The front hairpin bracket was a single piece of 1/8 steel strap with no gusseting or other support. The rear upper spring perch was a single piece of 1/4" plate welded on one side to the frame. Again no other support. The gas tank was an old air tank with the filler elbow being a piece of exhaust tubing attached to the "tank" with JB Weld. And notice how far the front driveshaft yoke was into the transmission.

The rest of the car was no better. But I wanted a project car, I got a project car.

    Attached Files:

  10. Larry, I love the weld on the rear coil spring plate, THAT'S PRICELESS!! Overhead stick welding- stinger in one hand and a crack pipe in the other.

  11. Yeah, that spring plate is a real piece of.... uhh ... WORK? Ditto for the hairpin mounts!

Alas my American friends , I fear that highlighting the fact that these vehicles exist combined with the lack of legislation or guidelines for building them could become responsible for loosing the freedom you currently have in building Hot Rods ....

Almost every continent beyond your own have strict guidelines concerning modified vehicles .... Would I be wrong in suggesting a governing body needs set something in play before it is all to late ? :(

Now where is a smiley face for genuine concern ....

Wrong? Yes. Absolutely and unequivocally wrong. More government is very rarely the solution to anything. We already have too much government intrusion in our lives. A government agency telling us how to build hot rods is the last thing we need. There is no way to legislate or regulate all the risk out of life. We could spend a billion dollars on education and inspections and there will still be dangerous cars on the road. I guarantee you there are dangerous cars on the road in Oz.

  15. AMEN, if big brother had thier way, we would have to wear a full face kevlar helmet in the only car allowed under the new regulations, a Prius.

I'm sorry if I did'nt make myself clear , a governing body is not your government . As Hot Rodders you need to take matters into your own hands .Ultimately my suggestion would consist of repected peers , in much the same way that race cars are governed ....
There will always be dangerous cars on the road , I am not discounting my country in this fact at all .... My concern is that sooner or later one of these poorly constucted vehicles is going to cause a major unfortunate incident , and that all Hot Rods may be grouped in the same basket as a result ....

The problem is that we live in a litigious country and it wouldn't be long before someone would sue this "governing" body for whatever reason they could come up with. Better to live with the laws we currently have, including Darwinism, which dictates that the strongest and most intelligent of a species will survive. Rat rods are simply the weaker intellects trying to dispose of their worthless carc***es for the good of society in general.:D

Yeah.....and he coulda'a at least used
    *galvanized* pipe couplings instead of
plain black iron!:D And I don't see any
teflon tape on the threads to prevent
    "steering leakage", either!!!:eek::D:D

I agree with Lab Rat,we must regulate ourselves or BIGBUBBA will do it. The NSRA has a safety inspection program. A mandatory safety check at shows could help improve cars and educate the unknowing. We are open to disastrous legislation if some of our cars are looked at.

That's exactly where I bought it. But the pictures looked great! :(

I was hoping to drive it while I changed the things I didn't like. Wasn't expecting a frame-off build before being able to use it.

  26. That plug wire isn't gonna last very long leaning on the exhaust manifold like that either!

At least those are genuine steel brake lines - I would've expected rubber vacuum lines or garden hoses.

  27. **** that! We don't want nor need more government!

Judging by the shadow that the exhaust is casting on the tank on the left side of the picture, it looks damn close. The engine must be mounted pretty solid or it would hit with any motion in the mounts. I doubt that there's room for heat shields.

^^^ exactly my point and the exhaust is not solid mounted. Note also the fuel fittings close proximity to the exhaust - a small leak from a fitting onto the hot exhaust and....

  30. Lots of As done that way, does not make it safe nor perfect.
