One thing I can add- out in cali or anywhere in the desert, a car casn sit for 30 years and really ooze patina, paint bleached from the sun, light surface rust, etc, and yet be absolutly solid. In the east the same car would have no floors, no rockers, and holes big enough to stick your hand through all over. Now make it somewhere like michigan where a 3 year old car is severly rusted, and there is no such thing as a useable car with patina. So, I can see why Germ doesn't understand it, yet all the northerners dig it. Just my 2 cents

  5. Man, that truck looks good...except I don't like that the imperfections were airbrushed.

I'm planning on doing something similar w/ a 54 GMC I just picked up. The only difference is I plan to take some wet/dry, a hose, and some elbow grease and go to town. No airbrushing here.

Never-the-less, this guy obviously put some hard work into this thing and kudos to him for trying something a little more unique than the average candy apple red kustom paint job.

I didnt read anywhere that anything was airbrushed , I think on the first page hot rod drummer says that it was sanded though , in the way you are talking about . thats really the only way you could make a paintjob like that look correct . I think the only things " painted " to look old were the logos .

Mike, he said the front fenders were glas but they have "rust" on them... I'm guessing he brushed that in.

I liked that little glas roadster that was making the rounds a couple of years ago with all the fake Patina on it. It made me laugh. I thought it was cool cause I was seeing all these credit rodders parking there boyd rods and trying to find a car with patina to spend a fortune on. I saw it as a poke in the eye to them. But now I see way to many rust buckets on the road that have gone way past "Fagtina" TM and are just POS's. Painting a car to look like that, that you had already had "fixed" and put in primer does seem a little stupid to me.

But what's done is done. If he had asked if it would be cool before he did it, I would have jumped all over the idea. To each his own...

You are correct, and they were brush painted.

I never intended this to get out of hand, I never said anything negitive or with ill-will.
Your comments are fine germ, I just don't understand the anger behind them....and that's fine too, I don't need to.

    The reason we did it is this;
It was flat black wit hred wheels, we bought it that way.
The fenders were just gel coat.
    We were bored of it,
We have that truck as a daily, Regret (which by the way is an old race car that hasn't been painted since 69') and we never get time to work on our own stuff. it was fun to do something for our selves.

The thing has dents all over it, we didn't have to worry about hood fit and such.

It was quick, cheap, and most of all fun!

and it feels like for once in three years we can say we did something for ourselves.

    Hugs all around,

    HRD

Hey Matt, stay gay in your michigan way, the truck is kick-ass. That would be my opinion if was from here, Cali or Timbuktoo. Keep on truckin and forget all the negativity, if you like it...thats all that matters!

I dunno...I got the chance to page through ONE of Matt's photo albums, and I got to see one of his rides in person, and go for a ride in it. Speaks volumes about what he and his Dad are capable of. They got nothing to prove to anyone, and that's the point. They build and drive what they dig and I doubt if they care all that much what naked bikers, or anyone else, thinks of their rides.

I like that in a person!

Call it cocky, rude or indifferent...I call it being cool enough to be your own Man!

Sure, they could've just painted the truck flat blue and had it lettered...drive it in Michigan for two years and it'll look just like that anyway! [IMG] That's what I woulda done...but I respect them for doing it THEIR way!

Aw, shit....HRD don't need anyone to stand up for him...I'm gonna go work on my fuel lines now!

(While the balmy Michigan weather agrees! [IMG])

    yeah GROUP HUG, I agree....
as long as KUSTOMBUILDER, holds my hand, and HATCH too...

the FAKE PATINA thing kinda bugs me a little, cause I really TRY and STRIVE to make cars semi NICE, and when I have really serious customers, I try to stay sober and really go the extra mile to make their car special..

adding FAKE PATINA just seems weird..

I guess cause Ive owned several cars that were serious PATINA, and I couldn't wait to get it back from the dipper, and start straightening out panels...

to each his own I guess.....

Ok, who are you and what have you done with Germ?

hodroddrummer , I think that Germ's comments were directed more at Kustombuilder's retarded shit talking that was aimed at slammit's retartded shit talking . I dont think anything really got out of hand . all of the bitching was aimed at people other than you .

You know this is funny. One guy shows a picture that he knows will stir up shit and bring on opinions. Then when he doesnt get the opinion he is looking for his pussy hurts and he has to "whine" about it and tell everyone not to "whine". I dont get it.

Like I have always said. "Opinions are like assholes, Everybody has one and they dont always smell good."
If you dont want any one to say anything about your FUCKING UGLY GAY ASS WANNA BE PATINA CUTLASS Then dont post a picture.

This reminds me. Has anyone seen those jeans that are like pre dirty. Like someone worked on their car already in them and then you pay lots of money to look like you are dirty. I bet you fake Patina Fuckers wear those while you drive you patina wagon so you can say yeah I worked on it.
I think some one once said that Patina and Vagina Ryme Thats funny.

Germ You are my hero man!
If ever meet you I owe you a Beer.

You know Mike you are right about the retarded shit talking but It made me feel better after a shitty day at work. Sometimes it is nice to vent. I could have been nice about it but oh well. I still think there is a lot of talent but just not my fake cup of tea. You know one of those cups with the fake cracks painted on to make it look like it was once glued back together.
    Sorry I couldnt resist.
