What an adventure! Having spent 1/3 of my life in Maine, there are 2 things you can be grateful for......

#1) Thank God you didn't have to pull this off in suburban Wytipitlock.....

#2) A night in the woods with Maine *****ers beats a night with a "Logger Chick" from the County.......

  2. I'll tell you, having access to a rollback with a winch makes a lot of this stuff so much easier if you can drive anywhere close to it. We've been able to haul out a lot of whole cars that way. Even if you have to use a couple long chains to actually get a winch cable attached to it, that may be the way to go.

20 yards ain't that far if you can get a truck with a PTO winch that close. Cut any trees down, jack the front up, and find a junk late model car hood to use under the front axle as a skid and tug away. Jack the back out if it's sunk in the ground, too. I picked up a '50s era A-frame bumper jack, the worm screw type, that you can run the hook down actually below the edge of the bottom plate if necessary just expressly in case I need to grab a car that's sunk way down and all I can get to is the bumper edge.

Hey, RustyNewYorker! I was trying to THINK of somethig simple & cheap to use as a SKID, 'cause all 4 hubs are frozen to their brake shoes, TOO! THE OLD CAR HOOD IS A GREAT IDEA!!!

I've got it jacked up, alternate tires & rims on it & sitting on lengths of 2"X10".

One of my replacement tires went flat, so I had to stop & bring that home to fix. With frozen hubs, it better AT LEAST be on inflated tires.

Guy with a roll-back doesn't wanna venture down in there -- even went so far as to say he'd tack extra charges on if HE had to call another truck to get HIM out. Since he was gonna charge $160 to haul the car 32 miles, I decided to get a lowboy & attack the situation with my Ram 1500 4X4, 2 log chains & a Maasdam PowrPullr.

The back & forth weather here in Buckeye country hasn't done me any favors this year, either!!! BUT, if Gigantor can do what he did -- under tougher cir***stances than mine -- I'm sure not gonna give up!!!
