Nope, I'm the one that gives stuff away so they are the receiver of the cool free stuff. I figure they need it more than I do and they are always available when I need ***istance, plus it gives me a bit more space in the shop.
Got a good running 61 Ranchero for helping one friend move. Another time a friend was moving, he gave me all his Mopar stuff. A 426 hemi alum intake was in the stash as well as a pair of NOS Hemi hood inserts for a 68 Roadrunner (one year only). Still have boxes of the stuff I haven't gone thru years later.
my dad gave me a 55 chev and a 69 cadillac. A guy had a 48 austin stored at my place and ended up giving that to me too. all 3 were runners.
I was given this 1940 buick Series 80 limited. It's gonna cost a fortune... Thanks grandpa. His way of keepin me out of trouble I guess
Fellow 32 Ford guy ( and a great guy ) 3WLarry ... sent me these mint ... maybe NOS door handles The handles are for a 1932 Ford 3W coupe. He paid big bucks for them and then decided he would not use them because original 32 3W handles do not have the key in the handle ... I have them proudly on my 32 3W ... thanks to Larry. THANKS AGAIN ... Larry Randy .
I get free stuff all the time, usually after asking "What are you going to do with that" things like New radials that were swapped to WWW, running 331 cad and lincoln motors that were swapped to 350/350, 49 pontiac fast back, 54 merc tail lights and many other things . it never hurts to ask
I was given a 1933 ford 5 window in 1976. It had been in storage since 1947. I still have it and wouldnt sell it unless problems arise.
Reminds me of Galaxie 500 by The Reverend Horton Heat. Check it out if you have never herd it.... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Yb_juTPQJUc?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I helped a friend clear out his father-in-law's ba*****t machine shop. I got a really nice Kondia mill and tons of tooling for next to nothing and the Walker Turner bandsaw for free.
Got a free for asking about it 350 Chevy engine out of a '74 truck that the guy changed because "it was running like **** and all Chevy small blocks have flat cams in them". Loaded it on my truck, took it home, started looking at it and found two carbon tracks in the distributor cap.
I've been given a free hard time, a nasty cold...not much else, that's not true, I got a 56 Studebaker steering column and the help to swap it into my 54 Stude Coupe.
Helped an old guy clear out his garage/shop. He gave me this good flathead core, and goodies, plus a whole lot of stories, and advice.
Let's see: A buddy found the first car I ever bought(51 Chevy four door), bought it and gave it back to me(hadn't seen the car in 10+ years). Another buddy gave me a 31 Chevy body(four door cut down into a rpu cab) and a complete Fenner Stone hydraulic setup from way back in the day. Another buddy gave me some 52 Buick taillights and an old Fenton three speed shifter that he snagged out of a junkyard in the 60's. That's all I can think of right now.
This one of the subject that makes me happy to have good hot rod buddies. We are always trading and giving each other stuff just like the old days. Two rules: If anyone is worried about coming out ahead or even then your in the wrong hobby!! Remember to ask the person who gave you something if they want it back before you sell it for that big buck.I have seen lots of bad blood over this one.
My dad had a years long patient come in and offer him the choice of something from his bone yard of stuff as a token of appreciation. Well, Dad had no interest in it, but asked if it was okay if his son ended up with it. The patient was cool with that, so we went and looked it at the three items in question. An old tractor, an early 70s Chevy C10, and a 58 TBird. Well, I chose the TBird Poor thing had sunk up to the body in the lawn, so we borrowed some rims and tires from a local tire shop friend, took some floor jacks and the jeep with a winch, winched the old girl onto a trailer and hauled her home. Here she is sitting being worked on at home. We since learned we are only the thrid owner of the car, it has the orginal paint and interior. She is still a bit rough, well actually the only straight panels are the roof and hood, but here she is going to get exaust.
Yep, I've gotten a few things and given lots of good stuff. Years ago a buddy gave me a Model A hood with a '32 center hinge. Couple years ago I gave away a 28-29 Model A door that also fit some year Model Ts. The kid couldn't believe I just gave it to him, he'd been looking for one for a while I guess. I've actually given a ton of **** away, now that I think about it... Farmer, I remember that Coupe! It's now a roadster, I did 110 MPH in it last Saturday night coming back to Tracy from Stockton...
I guess I look like I need "stuff" cause it is given to me a lot! I have most of it hanging on the wall for the next guy that needs "stuff". I have been given cars, new and old, engine, transmissions, golf carts, frames, lawn mowers, riding mowers and some livestock. I try very hard to share with others and if I borrow it, you get it back better than when it left. Act like a friend and you will have a lot of friends............another damn story
I got a crusty '57 Chevy rear end, some spare '57 Chevy axles, a 8ba flathead intake and a '51 Ford rear end for free this summer. The '57 came with an engine I bought, and the spare axles came from metal man when he noticed the rear end in my trailer. The '51 was free if I picked it up. Apparently the '51 was built with new internals, but wasn't re***embled properly. So that guy gave it to 50shoe, and 50shoe gave it to me. Hopefully I'll be able to help someone else out in the future.
OK this thread has reminded me to do post something that I should have posted in January. During 2010, I happened to have purchased a lot of items from C.W. Moss and their related web stores like fordgarden. Now many of these parts were at auction and I was getting some great buys, and they were backing it up with service and really reasonable shipping. So right after Christmas, I'm unpacking an order that included a pair of running boards, a shell and insert, tail lights, etc and I find a box with a handwritten note from Derek saying here's a xmas gift and thanking me for my business. The box contained Vintique '32 small parts like hood lacing, hood catches, dovetails, gas cap, etc., it was substantial. I was blown away. I did pick up the phone and thank the man directly but wanted to post it up here too.
