Hello. This intro has been a long time coming.I have been a lurker for a few years, enjoy reading the posts, and the technical articles are what I enjoy the most.I read the board roughly 3-5 times a week,if only my employer knew how much time I spent on here, lol.
Well,my name is Charlie, and I have been afflicted by this hotrodding disease since my very early years. The year I was born (1969) my father won his first stock car championship behind the wheel of a '55 Chevy.I remember riding in his stock cars holding onto the rollcage while he "tested" them at my grandfathers farm on a little track with chicken coop in one of the corners...honest to god, granmda raised chickens.
My first car was a 1971 Chevelle that I purchased at 12 years old while in 8th grade.Never finished, but did manage to learn how to burn off tires in that car.My first job was at a regular auto parts store at 16,and by 17 I had my first speed shop job.At 19 I was lucky enough to land a job as a counter guy at a major Chicagoland streetrod shop that is still in business. After spending nearly 6 years there,I wanted to try something different and moved to Michigan to try my skills at a very huge speed parts warehouse where I am still employed after 10 years. Many of the fellow Hambers are good friends and/or customers of ours.
I am an avid fan of drag and circle track racing, having wrenched on outlaw sprinters, just finished building a Ford Focus midget, and helped build a 1956 Chevy with a 747" mountain motor.I know, this is a damn long intro, but it is way overdue.
My personal project is a 1956 Ford F-100 pick-em-up that I have had a few years now.I have always liked the early 60's style show rods, and will hopefully recapture some of that flavor with my truck.I have a '62 283 with an Offy 6-deuce intake for now,but am already contemplating a Ford 312 or 292...they are bigger and fill the engine compartment better.I am planning on a flaked roof, with orange being the color,I already have '56 Lincoln caps, and may even buy some Astros.I installed a Heidt's x-member,and steering with a 1959 Fairlane column and steering wheel. The hood has '57 Buick porthololes, and plans call for '50 Merc taillights.I think this fits in the parameters of this board.I hope to make a few friends here, and definitely make some more posts,I am tired of lurking.Hope you all have enough room for another newbie.

sounds like a sweet ride you got there. I run a 1955 Olds Rocket 88 and have a 31 Ford 5window project car. What car isn't a project? I here rumors that theres a large Olds following round your part of the country. Any truth to that?

Guys,I really appreciate the nice comments. It is 2:18 a.m. now,and I am reading the results from some of the local short track races I follow.I am heading to a big race south of Chicago tomorrow night..guess I can't get enough race gas fumes in my system, lol. As far as an Olds following, they were made in Lansing, and there are a ton of Olds guys around here.A good mix of everything really.I sold my backing plates last year at a swap meet to another hamber for a model A he was building. As far as some pics of my dads racecars,I do have some, and will scan them soon.I did try to load a pic of my truck but it said the file was too large. Is there any way to make a file smaller? Thanks for the warm welcome..and I promise..no drama from me.

Charlie, are you sure you aren't secretly building a VW Bug? Seems that's all the newcomers are into. Thank God you have a respectable vehicle worthy of serious discussion here. F-100s dropped down and done as 60s cruisers are very cool. Now hop to it and get some pictures up, dammit!

16. Welcome! Welcome!

I've stopped responding to intros for the most part lately but I have to say, well done. We now know who you are, what you do, where you are, and what got you into cars in the first place.

Listen up newbies! This is a proper intro! And the best part of the whole thing. No attitude. None of this "I'm the coolest, heppest Kat around. All the Kittens dig me and my Krazy Kool Kuffed Von Drudge boxer shorts with the neet little condom pocket. OOOOHHH!! Look at me!! Look at me!! I'm choppin my car twelve inches cuz I'm sooper Kool! Check out my ultra Kemp shirt man. I got this from some guy who met Ron Jeremy, dig it!"*****.

Anyway, Welcome to the HAMB. Neat truck, sounds like it'll be even nicer when you finish.

Ramblin, ramblin, ramblin. Keep that Neppy ramblin...
