Man i wish my 56 ford 2 door hardtop was in the same condiition as yours. i have to replace everything that you have to, AND the whole roof, the front door posts on both sides, the hood, the drivers side door i had to replace all except the top 4 inches. and the p***. door is rotted out on the bottom as well. and you want to know what ****s the most. I paid for a rust free car. i found it in florida online (not ebay) and saw many pictures of it, wich all looked really great. even after i had got the car (had it shipped) it looked ok except for the driver door is the only place you could see rust. it wasnt until i started picking at it that i found out the real story. All the rust was covered with bondo and painted. the floors where not even there, they had used duct tape to cover the whole and then pored bondo over that. i pulled a chunck of bondo out of my floor that was 13"x10" and 3/4" thick. Yep someday when i can afford to fly to florida, the guy that sold it to me is going to get the beating of his life... he told me "the only rust on the car is a small spot on the drivers side door". ANYWAY, point is, be glad you paid for a rusty car. and not $12,000.

Hat's off to you guys. I've been down that road, I did body and custom work for several years before I got my first 'real' job. Those pics make me shivver, I don't plan on going back to that anytime soon.

    Amen Kustombuilder.

ALot of people wont touch cars like that with a 10 foot pole.

My 49 Chevy was in about the same condition as that 56 when i got it. I got that car as my first car as payment for stripping a 46 Merc down to bare metal for a friend.

Only thing is, the roof of my car was caved in by a chain being wrapped around the entire car.

complete flinstone car, there wasnt a spot in it you couldent stick your feet though. The 2" of undercoating and the 8 layers of carpet didnt help it much. it held more water than most peoples pools i bet.

But living in the Upper midwest, there jsut arent rust free cars around. If you find one, its gonna cost you an arm and a leg.

My father and I have spent whole winters doing Rust repair on one vehicle. Granted its in spare time, but it is definately the most time consuming of all repairs.
