Last Friday I was killing time while the wife shopped and I drove by this shop in Rapid City that I had been driving by many times. There was a chevy coupe and a battered 33 ford outside and on an impulse I stopped, knocked on the door and went in. A gentlemen named Duane greeted me and I looked around and was just amazed. He has a half dozen 30's ford coupes, a bunch of flathead motors, presses, lathes, big machines. He does fiberglass bodies and parts. He used to race midgets and modifieds and is a great guy. I left his shop the proud owner of a 37 60HP flattie on a cut out original frame test stand (w/ser. numbers) with the 3sp toploader attached. What a way to spend a couple hours, and I am going back soon. He also makes Doodlebugs! One a year he says, from scratch basically. Very talented guy and a good person to boot.
I will get some pics, didn't have my camera with me and had to dash to pick up my grandsons at school. Sure didn't want to leave though. I am stoked about my 60HP flattie, been looking for one for years and the one Duane sold me is cherry.
Have to ask what a doodlebug is, Im guessing he is not launching them against London so whatever it is, its not what I know as a doodlebug! Doc.
A doodlebug is a cut down 30's car with a heavy truck transmission and rears to build a tractor. Poor mans tractor.
cool way to spend your day! i raced a midget once, the guy was pretty fast for havin such short legs.
