  1. You essentially said, "I'll post my opinion publicly, but anyone with a differing opinion should do it privately."

  2. LOL! He probably did not mean it that way, but you are right.

Now you can get "citrus (fake)paint stripper". It smells like a fresh peeled orange and doesnt work worth a sheeet, but it saves bambi and the endangered saber tooth mosquito, and doesnt offend the californians :D

OK I have somewhat of an update, the powder coating stripper is $415 plus hazardous shipping for 5 gallons. Well worth it if it works as well as it's said to. I didn't order it, yet... but I did stop at the paint supply store today, and he has the ultra aircraft stripper, I laughed and said yeah I'm sure that crap works! He assured me that it does. So being the sucker that I am, I popped $25 on a quart. Well I'm here to say it works. It works great. It burns your eyes and you've gotta ventilate. I'm here to tell you, I'm happy. Here's a picture. The left is the strypeeze, 5 applications, and the right is the aircraft, 2 applications. This car has had 3 paint jobs, and the last was base/clear. Somebody back in this thread mentioned this stuff, well, bygod it works. 20240312_161425.jpg

That looks good, Lloyd, thanks for the picture. FWIW, I like Bambi and the saber-tooth mosquito. I don't have anything against Californians, either. Apropos of nothing, I just got a headhunter ad for a job paying twice what most areas do plus a $90,000 signing bonus. But the jobs are in San Diego and LA and I'm probably way better off here!

90,000 signing bonus will buy you the front door with nothing else and the lock is even extra in San Diego / LA. :D

The cost of living is probably 4X where you’re at now so paying twice as much where you are at you’re still going to come up short.

And only have a front door only ( with out lock ) to your name. :(

Dry Ice Blasting is expanding in the paint removal business.
Dry Ice itself is a bit soft but together with a little crushed glass works fine.
    Media itself creates heat.
With Dry Ice at -100 /-105 Temp doesn't allow the crushed glass to heat up as a example and keeps things cool.
And from what I see that combo does not warp the metal.

Granted - $25.00 bucks a quart is cheap but look at your labor time as well and the fumes.

There's nothing around here like that. One sandblasting outfit, and he's known to ruin sheetmetal. Seems like 2 coats does the trick for the most part. Had to go 3 on a couple of places. This isn't about the car in the background, it's about the paint stripper. I'm sold. 20240312_165133.jpg 20240312_175535.jpg 20240312_175540.jpg

Tight fitting goggles and vent mask with top quality cartridges or even better yet Fresh Air Respirator Hood with air pack. You don't want to fuck up the brain cells you have left. :D

You know the deal and what's best..

  11. Now that you got the stripper straightened out can you fix the brake clean ??? Lol

I don’t remember if I posted this here but forty five years ago when I was a young man in my early twenties I worked for House of Kolor in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For some reason I got all the stripping jobs or it seemed like it. One day Jon Kosmoski educated me on using paint stripper, I was told you must brush it only one way because stripper has paraffin in it. If you go multiple directions, you get paraffin craze which reduces effectiveness of the paint stripper. So to this day I apply stripper at one end and pull it to the other only going in one direction, I will add more stripper and continue using one direction with the application, I found this to be most effective. We would wash the panels with acetone after stripping but since I’ve used thinner.
Please use a respirator and appropriate gloves to protect yourself. Stripping can be a nasty job.

Yeah I learned it the same way, brush it on, one direction, and don't go back over it either. I've always done it that way lol

I bought a few cans at dollar general recently, it was non-chlorinated, but it actually worked pretty decent. Should I be worried about all of the years I had my bare hands in the parts washer

Does it still say on the can, “Not to be used on airplanes”?

I think about that sometimes. In the service we used to shove our hands into the saddle tanks of the duece & a halfs and 5 tons. When I started working, everybody had a 5 gallon bucket of varsol in their stall and we would clean our hands in that before lunch.

Sometimes even that is not enough. Once had a student(?) who managed to get stripper inside of a pair of rubber gloves that went 2/3's of the way up his fore arms.

Hey Cat, when I was about your age, I could put on a VW belt with it running like that! Wouldn’t dare try it now, too old, fingers too stiff, reflexes not as fast.
What can I say? I was young and dumb and invincible back then, or so I thought!
