Has any one tried to strip Anti Graffiti Clear like they use computer trains. Nothing sticks to it not even decals. The clear has so much surface tension nothing sticks to it not even decals. While working at Champion Trailer I cleared the front end of a Freight Liner with it and a year later I saw it when they brought the trailer in for updates and the driver said the bugs didn’t even stick to it. We tested it on the owners golf cart and he put decals on it but they fell off. Paint stripper only made it shine. But if you abraded it with a 80 grit disc on then the paint stripper would work on it.. we painted a lot of Prevost Motor Homes as well as all the trailer they built but only used that clear when it was specked on work orders.

  3. That would be a NO! LMAO!!!

My Dad will be 85 in 2 months & he was a mechanic for a GMC Truck Dealership in Cleveland, Ohio basically my whole life. He washed his hands in the parts washer EVERY DAY before he came home for around 30 years. No real heath issues & definitely not anything related to the solvent he washed his hands in every day.

  4. I think that depends on if there is anything that can be done to remedy the possible problems created due to that behavior. And I would want to try to verify in some way (have some evidence, such as health test results) that there are negative effects and/or possible toxins which have accumulated and/or remained. And/or if credible science and medical professionals report that repetitious skin contact with industrial solvents is a known problem. Washing hands for maybe one minute versus soaking for hours could make a huge difference. I once had a coworker who was convinced that chelation therapy (to remove metals and minerals) really helped to remedy health effects that he had, which he attributed to previously being a housepainter.

Hello, Bill. Your story is anecdotal evidence based on casually observing one person (a sample size of n = 1). Although you might not mean it this way, some people might take your message as a reason to not take precautions. Here's a thread on Garage Journal:

    https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/parts-washer-solvent-is-burning-my-skin.406787/

Those reports of problems seem like enough evidence to conclude that wearing good gloves is a good idea when soaking in industrial solvents.

Also, does having things like automotive greases and oils on our skin cause health problems? I don't know, but one could probably find credible information about that on the internet.

OTOH, my Dad washed parts almost daily for 30 years barehanded. Died too early at 75 after several years of cancer treatments. Maybe not cause and effect but makes you think.

  6. I hesitated to click the like button, but that is all we have, so I use it as an acknowledgement. I am very sorry to hear about your Dad. I have been so blessed to have both my Parents at my almost 62 years of age & even now cannot imagine losing either or both of them.

With no disrespect to @sgtlethargic , as this is a societal comment.....My biggest pet peeve is when (for some reason) a certain group of folks, who I am sure are well meaning, feel the need to tell others in this hobby how to live their lives! We are all grown men (& women) & we can make our own decisions!!!! I would never chastise or make fun of anyone who chooses to take ALL the precautions they need to when doing things in this hobby (we need everyone here to continue this great hobby). However, if the fact that I don't wear a seat belt EVER, don't look for a crosswalk to cross a street, don't dress up like an astronaut to paint a car & don't wear gloves when using my parts washer (almost 50 years of washing my hands in it) offends anyone....That is something they have to deal with, because I am not going to change anytime soon.

    God Bless

My dad used to bring home fire extinguishers from work loaded with Carbon Tetrachloride to wash parts:eek:. Cheaper than gasoline and really got those parts clean:). Didn't find out 'til much later how much damage it does to your liver and kidneys:(. And here I thought my liver problems were due to alcohol intake;).

Use to be a law of nature called Natural Selection now its against society law and we have to protect all those idiots who cant read warnings and drink liquid with a skull and cross bones on it, because they dont know what that means. There are those who cannot resist sticking their hand in a fan to see what happens. Warning, Warning, Warning Each and every one of us pays more for all the warning labels manufactures have to print and attach to every item they make, not to mention the rise in cost we pay because of law suits lost, when some moron did something stupid and got burned. We now live in a society where personal responsibility does not matter, in fact it is encouraged not to be responsible.
Now Im gonna have a several shots of bourbon.

  11. I am sorry Sir, but you basically dismissed my Real Life experience with using solvent tanks (my dad & myself) because it did not fit with your opinion of how you think we should be using it. That is far from a thoughtful reply & again my comment was not directed specifically at you as I prefaced in the start of that post. No Biggie though, like I said just a pet peeve of mine & I would be glad to buy you an adult beverage if we ever meet:)

Let’s see, we’ve gone from paint stripper, to brake clean to solvent.
    What up next?;)

Before I knew better, I couldn’t recall the number of times I’ve washed parts without gloves and also washed my hands off in it.
Always had a tingle in my hands when done.
Years later now, rubber gloves only.
Someday I’ll get a proper mask too. :)

  13. This is just an explanation:

I posted that your comment was anecdotal evidence, and it is because it's information derived from personal experience or observation. That and other stuff in my comment seems to have been the catalyst for your comment on society.

In reply to "because it did not fit with your opinion of how you think we should be using it": People can more or less do what they want to do. The initial comment of yours that I replied to seems to go against what the title of this thread seems to mean- that people who misused a product had a significant part in making that product more regulated (by the way, I have no problem with regulations and such). And as I said, "some people might take your message as a reason to not take precautions."

Thanks (especially) for your last sentence. :)

They took a product off of the market that benefited my body shop business, along with other body shops, because somebody that took the product for granted, misused it and died. The result being that this part of the process became much harder for myself and others like me. Therefore I have to raise my prices and listen to those complaints. It's a no win situation. But, the ultra did the job. So I bitched, but in the end, found a product that worked. Now I hope some idiot doesn't use automotive clear to do something inside of his house.....

    My grandfather did the same.

Dead from Leukemia, at 75, attributed to lifelong unregulated chemical exposure.

    building material.
    Lead was in most paint.
    Most of us (hopefully) evolve.

    You can’t ignore
    traffic laws because
    you don’t agree with them.

    Traffic laws exist to protect
all drivers on the road - you
have no “ personal choice “.
    when you operate a motor
    vehicle on a public road.

You can’t legally blow thru red
    lights and stop signs.

    Seat belts save lives.

If you don’t want to follow
traffic laws - stay the HELL
    of the road …..

Glad it worked Lloyd and your explanation.
Basically just be safe, you can never be too safe.

That being said, as you can imagine this one walks the " Government " intrusion/ involvement / safety save me spectrum and the political hairs get raised with reports from various members so this a good time/ place to lock this one.
Again, just be safe, you can never be too safe fellas.
